Well... before I tell you that, let me tell you how SKRATCHWORX was born.
After 15 years away from the scratch scene, I allowed myself an early mid-life crisis and realised my return to the decks was long overdue. So I set about gathering as much information about what was hot and not in the DJ world a decade and a half later. Well Technics were still hot was but most everything else was up for grabs
But what I did discover was that the information I needed was fragmented, incomplete or just wrong. Manufacturer sites were out of date, dealer sites little more than feature lists and magazines were singularly biased towards club DJ's. So frustrated, I thought it would be really cool to have one place for this kind on information, and combined with my desire to dip my toe into the whole interweb thing - SKRATCHWORX was born in September 2003.
What we do
It's all about information - knowledge is power and all that so what we do is bring you the latest news and the most technologically indepth reviews that we can.
I've tried to make this a place that everyone can come together. It's not aimed directly at the end user nor the other end of the spectrum - the manufacturer. Instead, I like to think that all spheres can stop by, gather some knowledge and if they want to, leave some of their own.
The first place people hit is the news
page and it's this that has proved to be the most popular. We
get the latest news directly from the manufacturer so you can be
sure it's reliable and up to date. And with the ability to be able
to comment directly on each story, you can interact with the manufacturers
as well. You might not see them all, but you can be sure that they're
all there... reading... taking note.
And that's an important thing to bear in mind. We pride ourselves on being impartial, independent and constructive. And this is something you all need to bear in mind when posting on the site. The way you handle yourself directly reflects on the image of skratchworx. I've said it before and I'll no doubt have to repeat myself over and over again - think before posting. Don't post hate - do post constructive comments. Endless hate is the only reason there's no forum on skratchworx.
Next up is reviews. We all need to make informed buying decisions, especially when spending well over a grand on a whole new setup. I certainly wasn't happy to shell out a large volume of cash without knowing that my choice was sound. But who do you believe? I've ready many a review that is little more than a feature list and tells me nothing. Or equally a skratch based product is reviewed by a dance oriented DJ (the 909 is OK but only has 2 channels). Or they're just plain wrong (the CDX doesn't do MP3). It's our aim to provide you with skratch based reviews that go beyond the surface of the product. We tell it like it is, even if it upsets a few people but we do it in such a way that it's constructive criticism. That said, even poor ratings have been met with acceptance by manufacturers.
And so much more...
Skratchworx is a work in progress. New ideas are being worked on all the time and will be implemented in due course. And it goes without saying that if you have an idea that would improve skratchworx, feel free to drop us a line at talk@skratchworx.com.
