Pioneer CDJ/DVD Deck
Pioneer CDJ/DVD Deck
Posted by Gizmo on October 23, 2003 :

Kind of old news by now but an official announcement for this recently seen box is imminent. For those of you that don't know, Pioneer have recently taken a new toy out to a few select events. Looking much like a regular CDJ-1000, this particular deck promises to take skratch DJing into a whole new era. If it does what it says on the box, you'll be able to use video in the same way you use audio but on a CDJ style unit.

Although Pioneer are remaining very tight-lipped, here's what Pioneer's Karl Detken had to say on the Pioneer ProDJ Forum:

"Imagine everything you can do with a CDJ-1000 but for video!!!
It has taken 4 years and 40 engineers to make this a reality but at last their will be a pitchable/mixable/hot cueable DVD player. At this point in the world their is only a $60,000 Avid computer system that can do what this player can do on the fly. There will be no official announcement until November but as members of this board you get to know first. It will be the most industry changing product since the 1200s or the CDJs. Be prepared the future is coming. The future comes at a cost though. The manufacturing and R&D for manipulating video on the fly with a hardware piece is astronomical so be prepared and save your pennies because it WILL be expensive. "

I have no idea about the full spec so I'll leave it to you guys to speculate. If the timescale given by Karl is correct, we'll know in a few weeks anyway. What I can say is that the case, monitor and speakers seen in the 2nd image do not come with the player - they are purely for demo purposes.

Oh my God. ive been waiting for that for a minute now. my jaw has dropped. i am a skratch dj and a video engineer for my day job. ive run live video with vhs(later dvd's) and a 2 channel video mixer in many live performances, but this shit will be insane. now someone will have to combine a video switching control(that switches simulataiously with the audio) in a standard battle mixer so you can put a beat behind video on 2 dvds and juggle. with the 2 beats and 2 clips of video, you could do AMAZING live tricks with that. im starting to save now so i can enter the V-DMC. hahahaha. great news post, Gizmo!

Let's see......

1. no screen included....(more money to dish out)
2. Will be waaaaaay more expensive......(as was said)
3. No mixer for it yet that combines the 2, like was said before......(more money when it comes out). It will probably be really expensive just like the rest of thier stuff rolleyes.gif

Why do I see that this is not aimed at the regular joe?

I actually don't really care. Pioneer has been dethroned by the Denon DN-S5000, and it's smaller brother the 3000 (the best CD DJ decks out there right now), and it's only a matter of time before they realize that, and pack up and go home.

This deck will be out of the range of most people, except for the "well off"......or at least people that are more "well off" than me.

So let me get this straight for the record....I 'll have a choice of one of two thngs...

1. buy the Pioneer's with the screen, so you can take full advantage of the decks.....(and don't forget the mixer when it comes out)

or....

2. put a deposit on a new home. (you probably think I'm joking, don't you?)

When is Pioneer going to learn?

PS.....Like I want to see a video stutter/scratch on a screen. When I go to a club, I want to go there to meet people and talk to them.....NOT to be told to "shut up.....can't you see I'm watching the video?". suspicious.gif

Kudos Pioneer, on another misplaced product.
