Pioneer have said (rather than officially announced) that the DVJ-X1 DVD DJ deck will be user upgradeable to have MP3 compatibility. Pioneer's Karl Detken said this on the Pioneer Pro DJ Forum:
"FYI: The DVJ will have an MP3 playing capability upgrade in the near future. YES it will be a FREE update that you can do yourself."
Seems Technics have got top DJ's queuing up to endorse the new SL-DZ1200 CD deck. Louie Vega anf J-Rocc from the Beat Junkies are adding there considerable collective DJ weight behind Technics in this latest video.
After our recent review of the Denon DN-X1500 where we less than impressed with the crossfader, Denon have clearly been listening and gone back to the labs to tweak the software. The fruits of this tweaking were on show at the recent Remix Hotel event in NYC.
Denon evangelist DJ A-L was on hand to record VH1 DJ JS-1 putting the new fader software through it's paces. And as you can see in this short MP4 or this this RealMedia file, the fader is now capable of more than we could achieve out of it.
So Vestax finally coughed up the goods on their entry into the single CD DJ turntable in the shape of the CDX-05. Stuffed full of features but one in particular that we turntablists are interested in...
The first of the Vestax reviews is here. Both Deft and myself played with the mixer for a while and came up with almost identical conclusions - so there will only be one review for the PMC-007.
I'm sure there has been many times where you wish you could get certain sounds, phrases or beats cut onto your very own slab of vinyl but never quite sure where to go or indeed if the quality will be what you expect.
Well ProfessorBX stumbled across such a place on his own doorstep. Read his review of Custom Records for more.
When skratchworx first started, I had the intention of posting a series of articles about anything and everything to do with turntablism. This I still intend to do as I need to flex my creative rather than factual writing muscles.
In the meantime, Ceri Grafu, a turntablist from Wales has written a article about turntablists being accepted as musicians. Makes for an interesting read.
Disclaimer: The usual blurb goes here - the views expressed in the article are not necessarily the views of skratchworx. So don't get funny with us if you totally disagree with anything Ceri has said.
Is your Vestax 06 looking a little tired? Feel like some redecoration in the gear department? Well check out these 06 custom faceplates courtesy of Flesh o.n.e.
DJ Gutter has decided to bring mass production of his famous Sewerslime slipmats to an end. And if you're wondering, the Batman picture is on Gutter's site.
For those of you who might be a little confused about skratchworx - WE DON'T SELL GEAR. Skratchworx is a news and info site and does not deal in equipment at all. There's no point in sending me emails asking for quotes as I can't help you.
Review time again people - this time, the DN-X1500 4 channel mixer from Denon. Not really a scratch mixer, but pitched as an ideal mixing companion to the Denon DN-S3000 and 5000 CD decks. Deft casts his experienced eye over the mixer and is not entirely happy with some key features (and for the record nor was I).
I know they're both long in the tooth now and established standards, but do you really know the difference between these 2 siblings from the Shure camp? Well ProfessorBX sure does (haha... see what I did there? ) and wants to share...
WARNING - I'm posting something that might be painful to your ears. I've finally got my act together and made a decent file from the CDX. Several more to follow as well in the coming week.
The high end mixer market is about to get another product to shake things up a little. Rodec have announced their new 2 channel featured-filled battle mixer - the Scratchbox.
Reviews - time for something a little different...

After many months (6 in fact) of trying, our new friends at Vestax have realised that maybe... just maybe skratchworx is serious about what we do. To this end, I've just taken delivery of some serious review gear - a PDX2000 mkII, an 05ProIII and a PMC007. And this is where it gets interesting...
I'm just messing around a little with new ideas for skratchworx v2. Refresh your browsers and you should see a shoutbox on the left at the bottom. Have a play and let me know what you think. If it proves successful, it'll stay. Any problems with it, post below.
Where are they all popping up from? ProfessorBX has uncovered another digital scratch controller - this time from ALCATech - in the shape of DigiScratch.
Roonie G presents "Futuristic Digital Skratch Tricks For Your Grandma"

A package arrived for me last week from Pioneer CDJ evangelist Roonie G - a DVD with the gobful of a title - "Futuristic Digital Skratch Tricks For Your Grandma".
In the wake of MusikMesse, I'm pleased to announce the first ever skratchworx competition. Up for grabs is some of (actually most of) the booty we got thrust into our hands. Plus some we didn't.
