The Numark Dust Cover - oh Dear Lord why?
Posted by Gizmo on June 18, 2008

Numark Dust Cover

Words fail me, but not Numark apparently.

Marvel at Numark's creative genius at managing to spin out more than a sentence about a fugly dust cover... sorry DUST COVER, which reads like a third person narrative:
DUST COVER is designed specifically for Numark turntables, and as a result, provides a custom-tailored fit and classy appearance with sleek lines and a slight ultraviolet tint.

Far from being a simple cosmetic accessory, DUST COVER is a crucial component of any serious turntablist’s arsenal of equipment, protecting both turntables and vinyl records as they are played.

DUST COVER fits TTUSB, TTi, TTX, TTXUSB, TT500, TT200, TT1650, TT1625, TT1610, TT1600, and TT1550.

DUST COVER has a specially designed cutaway for the tone arm counterweight so that records can play unobstructed, edge to center, with the dustcover in place. Strategically located rubber feet ensure that DUST COVER can be placed on a working turntable, minimizing noise and functioning as a diffraction eliminator. DUST COVER was designed with the stage in mind and
is constructed of shatter- and scratch-resistant polycarbonate.

DUST COVER is a must-have accessory for every Numark DJ.

Features

• Universal design fits most Numark turntable models
• Slight ultraviolet tint protects vinyl from sun damage
• Robust polycarbonate construction
• Shatter and scratch-resistant
• Tone arm counterweight cutaway permits playback with dustcover in place
• Strategically located rubber feet minimize noise and eliminate diffraction

C'mon Numark - it's just a bloody dust cover. Calm down.

classy appearance : No it's ugly

"DUST COVER is a crucial component of any serious turntablist’s arsenal of equipment, protecting both turntables and vinyl records as they are played."
first if it's soooo important then why didn't Numark decks come with them in the first place....second who the hell plays their records with the dust cover on??? Is this some kind of sick joke??

Oooooohhhh the "DUST COVER" they'll probably rip you out of 50 bucks for these things

Nice try, but these look horrible.

So at the next DMC championship expect DUST COVER to feature heavily in each set

I'll just stick with Stantons dust covers thank you. :D

I think that table looks ridiculous to start. the dust cover compliments it well.

If Im not mistaken dust covers on hi end audiofile tables (not DJ tables) are used to shield the cartridge from errant vibrations. hahaa, as if any system that this table is going to output too, or ripped mp3s through ipod buds, or ripped mp3s through a club system will benefit in the very least.

what about the ipod, and dock, doesnt that deserve protection from dust?

"a specially designed cutaway", right so it still allows dust to float right on in. just silly.

agreed, if it was such "a crucial component of any serious turntablist’s arsenal of equipment" why was it not included in the original design? ridiculous retrofit with a "specially designed cutaway"

"Slight ultraviolet tint protects vinyl from sun damage"
are you kidding me?

"designed with the stage in mind"
oh my [deity of your choice], what stage?

"Strategically located rubber feet"
really, why would anyone bother?

Maybe these companies peddle this snake oil as a way of spreading humor? because this shit sure is funny.
:D

It looks like the dust cover off an Aga cooking range.:D
I can't believe the audacity of that press release even trying to justify the existence of the dust cover as a performance tool. IT'S JUST A DUST COVER! You either want one or you don't.
They could've just been honest and pointed out that Dust covers serve an important, practical use by protecting your beloved decks from dust when not in use, but now they look as ridiculous as their new range of mixers.

I think its a good idea to have a dust cover. Granted it could be overhyped but still there is nothing wrong with it. For storage its practical.

LMAO Agreed Akiem....this is a waste of money

Protection from the SUN????? What?? :amazed:
Oh yes that's just what I need, an 80 SPF rated sun protectant for my vinyl ,cause I can see how the need for protection from the sun is important for your DJ gear, since most of us are in our backyards on a daily basis putting routines together. Protection from the sun. I didn't even notice that one until Akiem said it. Wow

Yeah this is realy some kind of sick joke, I still am trying to figure out how playing a record with the "Dust Cover" on is going to benifit you, who does that? Dust protector is just that, when I play my vinyl I'm not worried about dust..I 2 SL1200s the only time the dust covers are on those decks is when I'm not using them. Why? To protect dust from getting into them when they are not being used. THATS IT! Don't bite the bait people, Numark will get you hood line and sinker.

other than the cut-away for the tonearm i thought that it looked alright... until someone mentioned it looks like a toilet seat lol.

anyway, it's not THAT bad. i think numark have done the ttx a good turn by opting for a lid that is different from the standard 4-sides-and-a-top design. it's decent enough apart from that big gaping hole in the corner. and the lack of hinges. and the hyperbolic marketing guff.

On June 19, 2008, DaCaveDwella commented...
What a waste it will be when all these junk covers wind up in land fills...I'd rather spend my money on swiffer dusters & keep my spot clean rather than letting dust accumilate on my gear...

I think if you're a bedroom DJ or someone who keeps their Nmk tables in a static place, these can come in handy when your tables are not in use. I got tired of covering my TT500s with a towel. Whoever did the press release need to find another job. :hmm:

Giz,couldn't we get Akiem a prize for his anticks?

Good job Akiem. Looks just like the "Dust Cover". Even has the SPF sunprotectant. Looks like Numark visited a local hardware store walked right down the plumbing isle and stole a toilet seat to copy off of.
Great.
To all of you who own Numark decks, this doesn't help your cause AT ALL :P
