Vestax VCI-300 Serato ITCH midi controller

So NAMM has been and gone and Vestax continued to wave the "we're back bitches" flag with a handful of high desirable DJ weapons. The VCI-300 in particular garnered much fawning across the net with it's sleek blackness and Serato ITCH software core. But let's not forget the VCM-600, aimed squarely the the knob twiddling Ableton massive. Well Vestax have sent through official info and some hi res that maybe you didn't have before.

Oh... and a press release from Leisuretec, Vestax's UK distributors:
VESTAX TEAM UP WITH SOFTWARE HEAVYWEIGHTS TO CREATE ULTIMATE DJ CONTROLLERS

The Vestax Corporation has unveiled their next legacy in DJ equipment; the VCI-300 DJ Controller and VCM-600 USB Midi Controller, their first products to be software partnership driven.

Revealed at the NAMM Show, California, Vestax has joined forces with Serato to produce the staggering VCI-300, the next generation DJ Controller which follows the outstanding success of the VCI-100 launched in 2007. Sharing their technology and compiled feedback from Pro DJ’s and users from around the world, Vestax has created this USB Midi Audio System and software package offering absolute control.

The VCI-300 is a dedicated USB Midi Controller for the included Serato DJ Software. With built in audio interface with standard 4 in/4 out and headphone connection, all you need for DJing is the VCI-300, a laptop and a set of headphones.

Other new features have been added to further develop the VCI, such as the ‘Emergency Thru Switch’ which avoids the sound from stopping when the computer freezes, a new weight reduced JOG wheel and adjustable JOG wheel torque mechanism to avoid vibration from low frequency feedback.

The VCI-300 can control more than 90 parameters and functions of the Serato software, and pulse resolution of the JOG wheel and pitch control fader is four times higher than the VCI-100. The build in Audio interface carries a Audio Codec IC with superb audio characteristic, with audio connection including 1 stereo input, 1 MIC input and 2 stereo output. Audio files in the software library can be easily selected and controlled.

The other big announcement from Vestax is the VCM-600, a DJ MIDI Controller designed with Vestax mixer technology, compatible with Ableton Live 6 and 7.

The VCM-600 can control 160 parameters of Ableton DJ software (which can be assigned to the advanced control section) and other MIDI compliant software, with high resolution MIDI signals sent via USB. Specialised for mixing, the VCM-600 offers excellent performance to DJ’s who mix with digital music media and computer based systems.

Two LED panels on each side of the controller illuminate the top panel for clear operability and vision in club environments, and high quality input faders and pitch faders are applied for advanced operability. The VCM-600 also offers simple plug and play activation with Apple and Windows operating systems.

Both products will be exclusively distributed in the UK by Leisuretec Distribution, expected later in 2008. Leisuretec’s CEO Mike Henden said: “The VCI-300 and VCM-600 are the latest in a host of fantastic new high quality and in demand products from Vestax. Dealer and end user interest and strong dealer margins means sales in the VCI-100 remain strong, and the newly launched VCM-100 is creating massive interest. The products announced at NAMM will continue to further establish Vestax as leaders in the PC DJ markets.

I don't think any of this is actual news but at least you've now seen the official sell sheets. Still no real news on pricing and availability, but you can be sure that I'll be pushing Vestax around like a school bully at MusikMesse until they give up the info.

i have to say, that 300 does look good, in a 'if-you-can-get-past-the-toylikeness-of-it' kind of way

i guess i would have to try one to see if i am truly ready for this NEXT STYLE OF DJING!

What if Vestax stuck these to the platter: http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR109515

Would
it be acceptable then? I'm having a hell of a time tracking down 4" vinyl though.

Skratchworx started life nearly 5 years go as a turntablist site, but has steadily defined itself as a leading resource for all styles of DJing. The focus of skratchworx has moved with the times, and with technology blurring the lines between genres, we now cover every type of DJ technology from analog to digital with many stops inbetween.

Think about skratchworx this way - Serato Scratch Live and Traktor SCratch are used by a lot more people that just scratchers, and the same is true of skratchworx. It's a legacy name.

You still get the best coverage and reviews for scratch gear as well as other types, but in a market where controllers are dominating the news right now, you must expect for the news to be controller centric.

I do own the djworx domains and am considering starting them up for more general coverage and returning skratchworx to very scratch specific coverage, including artists news and battling.
