All out of Torq wordplay so... v1.04 released

Update time. Keen to keep on top of pesky bugs and adding support for their own products to boot, v1.04 of
M-Audio's Synchroscience's Torq application has been released.
Here's what the update covers:
- Supports Xponent controller/interface.
- Holding SHIFT and rotating an Xponent Scratch Wheel will offset the Phase Grid.
- Redesigned MIDI architecture for improved response.
- If a sample is looped, it will be looped when used with QuickScratch. If a sample is not looped, it will not be looped when used with QuickScratch.
- Hide Phase Grid button will remove the Phase Grid from the Scrolling Waveforms.
- New “Reset Speed Slider on New Track” preference for keeping the position of the Speed Slider the same when loading a new song.
- The Sampler will use the phase information of the Master Tempo when recording from the Line-Input.
- MIDI control can be assigned to the scrolling waveforms (for scratching with a device other than Xponent).
- Torq will remember the path when saving samples.
- Fixed: Track will play without External Control if dropped onto a Deck while Runout Protection is active.
- Fixed: Two additional Snapshots on top of a Key Change Snapshot will cause incorrect Key behavior.
- Fixed: VST Effects unstable when Effect Rack is Bypassed.
- Fixed: When a Deck is synced to the other Deck, the Reverse effect stutters and skips when activated.
- Fixed: Schaffel mode not implemented for all effects.
- Fixed: Snapshot recalls incorrect Repeat Size.
- Fixed: Snapshots are affecting parameters outside their scope.
- Fixed: Sync is not disabled when loading a track onto the opposite Deck.
- Fixed: Playing back a sampled loop results in audio glitch.
- Fixed: When activating a QuickScratch, the previous loop would superimpose itself on the sample.
- New preference for resetting Speed Slider on new song.
And some tantalising words from the
Torq forum:
While the main focus of this release is Xponent integration, our Conectiv users will also benefit from this update as there are numerous bugfixes along with an enhancement to the MIDI architecture. We recommend this update for all users.
In the next couple weeks, we will begin testing Torq 1.5, the first release to include significant feature additions. Select details on this release will be coming in the next couple weeks so be sure to check back soon!
I'm spending time with Torq right now and it seems pretty cool. I've only been messing with it rather than pushing it through the stringent reviews machine so I have no other comment to make at this time.
dang. Synchroscience seems to be serious about their product! can't wait to see what's in store for v1.5
I Look forward to the review of the three main competitors Scratch LIVE, Torq and Traktor Scratch! Take your time with it and keep up the good work Giz!
eager to hear that review as well.
Fourth! :P
I have to say that in prepping for my review I have been seriously impressed by Torq. For the cash you pay it is a seriously good deal.
Giz do you know if they plan on making the 1.5 release available for free to those of us with 1.03 (and now 1.04)?

I have no idea. Early days yet - I guess it depends on the features added.
BTW I added a new box to the homepage image.
i have to admit, i seldom hear any mention of numark's virtual vinyl...have you been playing around with it long? is there a review or comparative analysis on the horizon? "enquiring minds want to know."
synchroscience? did i miss a meeting?
Im really interested with the scratching Cue. Everything else in it is pretty dope. I really enjoy all the actual quick cues u get in it. The looping is really fun too.
if i understand correctly, synchroscience is the collaboration between m-audio and the ms. pinky people. trust giz to give us the real dirt tho.

i think the torq software/timecode is the only collaboration.
The only colab is the timecode-Maudio liscensed it but built the app around it.
I hope version 1.5 introduces the track offset thing, which is not possible yet and is imho the torq's weakness
yeah actually you guys are right, it turns out i read that on some other site that was incorrect. synchroscience is simply implied as being m-audio's "created by djs for djs" department. i kinda wonder just how true that is...
I was simply trying to reinforce M-Audio's DJ division as everyone still refers to Torq as an M-Audio product when in reality, it's technically a Synchroscience product.

Numark Cue is Virtual DJ with a different skin...
hey giz, will you be getting a demo unit for the xponent?
I had a conversation with Numark about Cue, and its a little confusing. They feel its more than just Virtual DJ with a skin because while the Virtual DJ (Atomix) guys are the developers of Cue, the direction it has taken has been at the request of Numark (Mac support for example, as well as some of the other features).
What's confusing though is, all of the stuff in Cue is available in Virtual DJ, so currently they seem to be pretty much the same thing.
I think the deal with Atomix is that they develop Cue features for Numark, and are currently allowed to incorporate those features into Virtual DJ as well, but they are Numark driven additions. As a consumer, this doesn't make that much of a difference, because they are currently pretty much identical. However, Numark gave me the impression that they are only the same "for now" and could diverge at some point down the road.
That said, and in Numark's defence, its fair to say that some of the features in Cue/VDJ would not be there if it were not for Numark's involvement, so they have certainly had a hand in its development as opposed to simply rebranding VDJ.
WRT Torq, I haven't played with 1.04 yet, but have to say I was thoroughly impressed with my time spent on 1.02, so can only imagine 1.04 is better. Synchroscience is indeed the "for DJs by DJs" wing of M-Audio and not a collabo with Ms Pinky.
Thanks for shedding some light I.M.
I just want to know how well the skratching holds up on the numark virtual vinyl sound card.
Torq 1.04 Rocks and it works flawless on Intel based Macs.
If you need proof check out my videos on youtube
I even used it to join the DJMag Micromix Competitions.
