The biggest event in the
gear geeks DJ trade's calendar is Winter NAMM. God knows why it's called Winter NAMM as citizens of Anaheim haven't got a clue what Winter really is. The temperature dropping to 75° is classed as a cold spell out there. But it all kicks off in a couple of weeks and sadly, I've decided that there really isn't enough going on to warrant me spending £1500 to get there to give manufacturers a whole heap of free publicity. So I need to recruit basically anyone who is going and has a camera to feed the

massive with all the hottest info direct from the show. If you're going and want to help out, hit me up at the usual address and we'll work out the details.

delegates needed.......Goodluck Giz
Keep the good thing coming guys ^_^
i'll do it for free.

"i'll do it for free."
Good point. I should add that it's a volunteer role. I have no cash to pay. If I did, I'd be going myself.
DJ Baek aka Eugene Baek I'm going have to call you Raneface for eternity.
i'm sure i'll be allowed to float around during the show..so I'll snap some shots and vids for ya.... hit me up at the "work" email.
I'm only 20 minutes away, but NAMM starts when I need to be back at school.....damn.
will you be able to provide media credentials?
You have all that Dj equiptment well worth over $20,000.00 and you can't afford £1500?

Ummm... what? Here's my kit list - 2 x TTXs and a Rane 56 (which I bought 4 years ago), Rodec Scratchbox, an Ecler HAK 360 and a CDX. Anything else I have is on loan and most certainly on it's way back. Where on earth do you get $20K from? And as for "can't afford £1500", I stopped my 9-5 in April to work for myself. Sadly, I've yet to invent the DJ equivalent of Google and £1500 is a whole months wage for me.

If you're already going, then you should need it but yes I can provide a letter of assignment if necessary that you can present at NAMM.
SORRY!
I didn't know
I was just mad that you were not going to NAMM
We will keep our fingers crossed and hopefully someone will buy you a plane ticket.
I think you spelled "Posse" wrong.

I'd give you a scoop but I have no icecream to give. You know where to hit me up on email, I'll take some pics and give a couple of show reports for ya.
I'm going(Saturday and Sunday). I will try and get great footage of the demos and pics of new shit. Hows about a Skratchworx t-shirt trade off?
yeah i'd love to go, but i don't know if i have a way in anymore...seems me and numark aren't getting along so well these days. tsk, if only i hadn't lost the pioneer reps business card. well, let's just hope there's some scratchy goodies up some sleeves this year (and that you can get some good posse coverage)
you quit your job to do skratchworx full time.this is not relevent to skratchworx fans? me thinks it is. you should go. dont 't let your brain try and justify not going.this is what skratchworx is all about.ha.
Yo contro-verse, why don't you start a fund to pay for Gizmo's trip if you think it's so important. Of course that's only if you're a real skratchworx fan.
Contro-verse has a point. I can understand the fund situation, but Giz has to work this out, as he didn't go last year either.

"Contro-verse has a point. I can understand the fund situation"
Really? I have zero guaranteed income. I can't put it any clearer than that. I also have a family and a mortgage. I think an expensive trip to LA is excessively selfish in the face of those facts.

Funnily enough, I did go - and Autodactyl you even commented in the stories. So perhaps you can now see why the trip isn't exactly necessary if you can't remember last years coverage.
Believe me - I wish I was going, but I can't justify going deeper into debt. My time and money is better spent on 2007. Thankfully enough friends have come forward to help me out with NAMM coverage. But remember that you'll still get to read all the hot news as soon as it happens. The various PR departments will be pumping out releases coming up to NAMM. And my trip to MusikMesse (only 10 weeks later) is already booked.
Bottom line - skratchworx is totally free. Think about that for a minute and then respond.
I only meant to say that somebody should be sponsoring you or something. You're an important enough voice on the net to not have to pay for this kind of stuff.
most people here at Skratchworx dont have a "guaranteed income".....we are dj's. we have to hustle up a living too. and its not "debt"...it's an investment.....better content for the site= better donations to the site. common sense. maybe we should send our donations to the dj's that WILL be attending NAMM for you as they are the ones doing the leg work and coverage.
please take this with a grain of salt. all this is said with a grin. no ill will towards Gizmo and co. I do love the site and i am just giving you a bit of hard time.one love.
i'll do it for a free trip to the UK?
Thud Rumble
Pro X Fade
West End DJ .com
Dephect
Dolphine Music
Ect Ect
All these companies should be paying Gizmos way to L.A.
Since the only reason I found out about there products was because of this site.
By clicking on there banners.
What up with that?

Sounds like some people still live at home with mommy and daddy.

at some of these comments......
Contro-verse, if your comments are intended as a joke, they are a poor one. You come across as exceedingly childish and ungrateful for the excellent content this site continues to bring.
Love for the scene has motiviated Giz to give up "the good life" of a steady income, instead focusing his energies on trying to make a living off delivering quality web content. That's an extremely difficult thing to do and probably a scary decision to have made. This needs respect and support not commments such as "maybe we should send our donations to the dj's that WILL be attending NAMM for you as they are the ones doing the leg work". If I were going to NAMM (which I also can't afford to do and I have a well paid job), I'd gladly provide what I could in an attempt to give back something to this site which has evolved into the only turntablist site worth visiting on a regular basis.
I agree that some of the manufacturers who get much love (and subsequently business) should be stepping up to do more, but in the sad absence of this, the least we (as the folks who benefit from the info found here) can do is recognize and support Giz's efforts.
If Skratchworx charged memebership dues, it would be a different matter. It's free, so stop complaining. Or build something better yourself. I can't stand bitchy freeloaders. I think it's great that Giz is soliciting help from folks across the globe. It makes the Skratchworx community stronger, extends its reach, and allows members to give back to the site.
I stand firmly behind the 3 last posts. GET OFF GIZMOS BACK.
Thanks people. WE at

really appreciate the support and help. :embarrest
Hey Gizmo,
Have you ever thought about talking to the manufacturers at NAMM and explaining your situation? I think they would gladly pay for your expenses and some for going out of your way to practically advertise their products for them on the leading website for DJ gear.
But I guess since you have your posse, it won't matter this time. But try it for future events!

One of the reasons I come to this site every other day is credibility. Lots of people complain about the turnaround of product reviews and such, but that's mostly cause of the "no compromise" type of reviews seen here. Having manufacturers back up this kind of trip would be great as far as us getting the coverage, but I hardly think it would allow the unbiased reviews we get here (or does anyone here belive they'd just go "well, you're a nice guy, people respect the site, so we'll just pay your way so you can have a chance to knock on our products so we'll make'em better next time"?).
Honestly? Sad thing you're not going. But then again, either go do it proper and respectable, or just don't at all. The last thing we need is advertising diguised as actual coverage.
My 2 cents.
hey iron monkey. it sounds like you are applying for the job of GIzmo's agent...now there is some guaranteed income for you.
for the love of god.....LIGHTEN UP.
It's a shame the companies didn't chip in to pay for your expenses Gizmo, after all of the basically free promo you gave them.

is a very important presense in the scratch scene, scratchworx can make or break a product.
Not cool companies, not cool at all!

Bone saw is ready.
Giz needs to put on the pressure. Maybe this is his protest. :D
that independence vs payola argument will always come around, let's face it how DO you court the support of the majors without having to pander? how would all the big brains/mouths on here do it? you really think 5 clicks on a banner buys a flight to LA?
New headline
Send some love for Gizmo
I visit the site for the witty comments.

I really can't believe some of these comments. They're just like the ones on torrent sites where the leechers bitch out the person seeding them the free torrent and cry because it's taking too long!
Not calling everyone leechers here, but some of these comments are ridiculous! Appreciate what you have!
geuss I might see you guys there. might be going with my friend since he was invited also
Ok, enough with the bitching. I'm on the Virgin flight out tomorrow, there for 3 days with my video camera, digital camera, loads of batteries and a microphone! Of course, this week, I be mostly hanging out by the Ortofon stand

After a lot of organising, haggling and eventually seeing sense, I'm not going to NAMM. I asked for sponsorship, got it from a number of manufacturers (thanks and sorry for messing you around) but looking at my commitments in the UK, it's not the right time to go. I have however organised a skratchworx deputy and all being well, he'll be able to deliver all the pictures I'll need. and the pre-NAMM info is trickling in so I guess I'll be posting it all up over the next few days.
I'm told MusikMesse will be the show to go to. And lucky me - I am! Flights and hotel are booked and paid for by my fair hand.
Safe journey Mr Tan. Be sure to keep your mic in one piece and those batteries charged. Last year on the Rane stand was hilarious. Teddy Riley on one side, Steven Segal on the other...
