Can you do review of Skullcandy SK Pro
Skull Candy don't seem to have a lot of friends in the DJ scene. But yes, of course I can - if they can get a pair to me before a week on Monday.
I can only provide contact info
http://www.skullcandy.com/contact-us.html
Iwant to buy them but I don't know are they good enough.
Also can I Denon hp700 fit in review 'cause that headphones are nice and not so expens.
Thanks
Denon HP-1000 for the win! The main reason is that it's the only model on the market to have a "rest position", meaning you can flip both sides in parallel with your body while they're around your neck. A1 on the sound, A1 on isolation.
dope idea gizmo, how about those headphones by aerial 7 "tank"? they say they're just like the sony mdr v700. hopefully you can get a pair soon
They look identical. Thus, is there any point including them especially as I've only included the Sonys for historical reference?
Again, if they can get a pair to me then I can include them. Right now however, I don't have the time to chase anyone. I think I've covered the main ones so I'm happy with what I have in the test.
I would really like to see the new monster beats spin in the lineup!
How about adding the Dr. Dre Beats headphones also?
Great idea Gizmo.
Looking forward to what you have to say about the Denons.Im torn between them and the Techs 1200.I have tried the Techs and they are solid, but i think i will wait for the review.

Is it possible to mention the Allen & Heath XD-40 headphones?
I'd love to see the Ecler ECH602 in the review, but i guess it's a bit to late to tell them.
Very nice!
Looking forward to the review

very nice idea!
If many test will be subjective, it will be nice to have at least 3 opinions from djs that have owned few headphones.
Cheers
The SHURE SRH750 DJ is a new comer, cheap and seem comfortable due the very large cup that goes around your ears and not on.
I'am very curious to know how good it is because I was on the point of buying one...
Curious that Pioneer didn't want their HDJ-1000s in the roundup... Considering that almost all of the EDM DJs I know use these cans (including me), I think it'd be nice to have a pair for review purposes. Even if only for, as you put it Giz, "historical reference."
Hell, I'll send you mine if you want

I've got a mountain of schoolwork a mile deep so I won't be using them for a while, and they're in mint condition with the full packaging. You know where to find me

Looking forward to this. I own a pair of of HDJ-2000's and have used the Sennheiser HD-25's a bunch and like them both a lot for different reasons.
As far as these "aerial 7 tank" headphones go, they are exactly the same as the Boosted headphones that came out a couple years back, just rebranded.
I can tell you right now they are terrible, sound quality and build quality is some of the worst ive seen/heard in "DJ" headphones. This is why they sell them at places like Urban Outfitters in the states.

I'm looking forward to the headphone shootout as my current pair (an ancient set of Sony MDR-V500's) are starting to seriously show their age..
i sport the Denon hp-1000 and IMO they are bangin'. this should be a fun comp being that us ave joe's don't get the opportunity to have a go at all the cans out there. one of many many reasons i <3

!!!
The mdr v700 are for me the best headphones. i used most of them but the sony is best for me..and the price is very good..
Sony MDR-7506's
Having worked with many-a-DJ, this pair of cans not only shows up in the studio, at the mixing console, but also at the decks. I think they deserve a shot.
I'll stick to my trusty Sony MDR-v900 for now.. but will see the review..

i'm seeing more and more djs sport the WeSC bagpipes (including myself). i already know they aren't the best cans, but it could be interesting to throw them in the mix?!
I agree, I'd really like to see Beats in the mix too, if its possible.
Re: Beats by Dr. Dre headphones. I'm not saying they shouldn't be up for review but I've read many places that these headphones are overpriced piece's of s**t with poor build quality. I'm not saying that's MY opinion, but that's what I've read. Personally I wouldn't buy them just because they seem to be the headphone of choice for quasi-celebrity DJs who wear Ed Hardy t-shirts and blindly buy them because they're designed by Dr. Dre and they're expensive.
If your looking for quality and not the looks there are far better brands than Beats and Skullcandy which in my opinion are overpriced.
I owe hdj-2000. Changed from hd 25. They got brilliant sound and not so good isolation. I bought them becouse of build quality and sound but... some plastic parts of arch broke on both sides after half a year of regular using. Also they have kind of coating wearing off after while. It's a regular problem with them. These are things you won't notice in short tests.
Skullcandy headphones are crap for fancy kids.
Ultrasone DJ-1 Pro are interesting. Lookin forward for the review!
Sup everyone, great Idea, personally I use Audio Technica M50, I thought I d gotten ripped off when I bought them, due to the lows really lacking punch, but about 5 hours into using them, and cranking them up to 11 for a bit, they started to really pump, just turns out that they needed quite a bit of breaking in. All I'm saying Giz, is that if you get new cans from manufacturers, make sure that you break em in before starting the review, otherwise your test results may be quite different from reality. Cheers and keep up the good work!
Giz, what kind of criteria can we expect to see tested? I'm sure you've already got a list but if you're going to do what I gather is the biggest DJ headphone test ever done, why not make it all encompassing! Here are some ideas for you...
- rough street price
- sound quality / volume (+specs if you can)
- comfort / type of ear pad
- comfort / type of headband (and pad where applicable)
- construction quality / materials
- swivel style / options
- foldability
- cord quality / length / type
- connector quality / type
- ease of repair / cord replacement (don't actually take them apart if the companies want them back!

- accessories included
- availability of replacement parts off-the-shelf
- weight / fatigue factor
Love you!

Ever consider reviewing any in-ear earphones for djing such as the Westone 3 or the Shure SE530? Only reason I bring it up is that I am considering going that route. However, I do currently own the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II headphones and even tho I seem to have to replace the cord like 2x a yr, they isolate extremely well where I barely have to turn them up for dj use. I have owned the Ultrasone DJ-1 Pro and the Pioneer HDJ 1000s, which both eventually had a driver go out on me even tho I didn't have them up that loud, and I prefer the HD 25-1s. People forget that its not always how powerful headphones are that make a good pair but rather how well they block out external noise so that you dont have to crank it up so high.
@Pulse - all that and more. Things like how far they actually open, how far the ear pieces swivel, internal as well external isolation with recordings, comfort and stability with 2 ears, one ear and wedged between your head and shoulder...
Trust me - it's pretty comprehensive.
Like I said before - I'm not about to go chasing manufacturers. If they read this and want their cans included, then they can contact me and send me a pair. I'm on holiday for a week and won't be spending that week rushing around gathering up designer brands for the test. The ones I have gathered are pretty much universally standard in the DJ scene.
Just bought a new pair of Technics 1210 headphones ,but been browsing the web for a review of them for the past week ,couldn't find any !
I think they're pretty "universal in the DJ scene" ,although relativly not that new.
hey Gizmo could you include em' in your review ,that is if you get your hands on a pair.
b.t.w ..realy good headphones , very recommended.
Happy Holidays to ya all ..
I have listened to Dr Dre's headphones at best buy and multiple times at the apple store. Completely worthless. I wouldn't pay over $50 for them. That goes for both the studio and solo model.
I second the in-ear earphones, although it took me a while to adjust to these.. there are some ups and downs
Beats and skullcandy are normally for those DJs that want to style but they are not quality drivers and sound. Stick to the big name brands.. Sony, Sens, Denon you can't go wrong..
Guys if you need sound quality. go with sound not looks. Chrome and colors and other flashy things are only for looks..

It's been doing that error for years. Not going to attempt a fix as it'll probably break something else. Everything else works just fine.
I agree with sebastian on the Sony MDR-7506 / Sony MDR-V6 deserving a test, Best headphones iv ever used.. but then again theyr a pretty old model so i cant see sony sending a set in for testing...
The reason why Pioneer did not want to be included is because the spend a lot of money advertising and they don't want bad reviews to change the consumers mind.
Pioneer believes that advertising works and can't stand competition. That's why they always use celebrity dj to sell there product.
@Giz > Awesome, can't wait. I've only ever had the chance to compare like 2-3 at a time.

@Pioneer bah! > If I had to guess, they didn't want the HDJ1000 included because it's not their flagship model. Competition is healthy!
The Shures look an awful lot like the Ultrasones, do we have a case of OEM headphones here, or are they just rebranded Ultrasones? Do they advertise the same "3D" experience as Ultrasone?
@53nzr > Not sure about that one but the A&H and Denon ones are almost identical -- I may be wrong but I think they were a "joint project" before A&H and Denon DJ companies were owned by the parent company.
gizmo,
It would be great to include a wireless model-- the sennheiser rs170 is a good candidate. my view is that we need to see how far wireless technology have gone and use the sound quality of the conventional cans as reference point. The wireless format will have plenty of embracers in the dj scene if the sound, durability and convenience all merge to bring out a superior product. The wireless technology has matured enough to merit a head-to-head comparison with the biggies in the DJ scene.
my 2 cents.
If it doesn't have a curly cable, it's useless.
I've destroyed too many headphones stepping on straight cables and ripping 'em out of the headphone. Sony FTW...
+1 for Denon Hp1000s, going strong for 2 years.
Pulse-
The A&H's are actually OEM'd from Audio Technica. The A&H's have a much more stable swivel joint however-the one on the Denon's provides a wider range of flexibility at the expense of durability.
@Gay Zombie - Ah, thanks!

but the technics RP-DJ 1200 needs to be in it!!!
So did I get the wrong Technics? DH1200 or DJ1200? They're only in there for legacy comparisons really. Panasonic couldn't even supply demo pairs - I've had to borrow a pair from Westend DJ.
Very good selection! I'd say that pretty much covers all options a serious DJ would look at. I guess the only thing missing would be something from WESC (Bag Pipe or Oboe)
Will there be some kind of price bracket or something? You can nearly buy 3 of the cheapest for the price of 1 of the most expensive phones in this group...
id say its a good list too. definetly everything there that a pro dj would be looking at. im looking forward to see if the hd25s are being matched or even beaten by some of these new ones (hdj2000s especially!

Hi Gizmo, I know it's farfetched, but could you try to include a comparison of the most comon spare parts (hearpads etc...) for instance Sony charges 75€ for MDR7509 hearpads ...
:D
Thankx

Best headphone would be the denon for sound quality but quality it would be the pioneer hdj-2000, I think.
+1 on the Sony MDR7506s.
I can't WAIT to read this review.
-KLH
I am seeing the WESC headphones EVERYWHERE in the states. I haven't checked em out, and I know you don't have a pair to review Gizmo, but can anyone shed some light? Is this solely an image thing, or are they actually decent headphones?
Can you add in the Technics RPDJ1200 as well, I would like to see a comparison of those
I think that Denon HP700 would be good choice for review 'cause they have reasonable price and standard quality?
I know that Denon HP1000 is included but you should put these as well.
sony mdr 7506 - amazing sound & durability
@Carbon Based Productions -- yeah it is largely an image thing. The WESC guys have ties to NYC DJ crews + Scratch Academy so they have street cred; that's part of the image. I've tried a few of their cans for a bit and the sound is reasonable for the price they are charging (I checked out 3 pairs all below 120 USD) but they don't compare to anything on the review list.
@radley -- I am totally on the other side of that fence; having owned several Sonys I always had problems with curly cables, I'd warp them and get them all tangled up in shit, and trip over myself when the cord got tangled on itself. I am loving my current straight cord Ortofon O1s.
Speaking of I am looking forward to hearing the scoop on the O2s, I almost wish I'd known they were coming out when I bought these. I definitely want to hear it compared to the Ultrasones, which are very similar but have some important differences. I really wanted the Ultrasones but couldn't justify the extra cash (it was about $100 price difference when I looked).

@Giz > Hey, will you be getting in a couple of other tester heads on this one? I know fit, comfort and sound perception are different for each head/ears.

Nice to see the Shure SRH750s in the mix, they are nice cheap cans for the quality they provide. Curious to see how they match up with the big boys. Those things can bend in so many ways makes me wanna have sex with em.
you should try and get a rating on Ultimate ears plugs...some DJ are starting to use it
www.ultimateears.com . it's custom ear plugs that also stop loud noise.
Could the Sennheiser HD280 be reviewed?
It's too late for any more headphones. There has to be a cut off point and this is it - especially considering that I've started writing now.
fwiw, HD280's are the best!
When can we expect to read the reviews?
Very soon I hope...It's been a while since you started writing (4/14), right...?

Is review coming any time soon?

You're kidding right? Have you checked the top stories recently?
