500 bucks!? sounds great!!!
hopefully it works with serato --> the bridge --> and recognizes the crossfader and eq in ableton!? I dont wanna spend 1500 for the ttm 57 sl!
This price tag should have a positive effect for all of us, considering we now know the Allen & Heath Dx HAS to have a lap top plugged in, as the only way to use external source is using thru mode via software. The only other thing out there as versatile as the VMS4 is the 4D, wich is 3 time's the price(and most probably 3 time's the build quality)! It's such a shame the Dx isn't an analogue mixer as well, I know it's built like a tank but £999 for a very well built midi controller, balls to that! On the other hand many including myself will want to wait a while for user feedback (plus scratchworx review) until we spend our hard earned on this Behringer-ish type brand. Needless to say, Kudos to you American Dj, hopefully this will give the big brands a kick in the right direction.
@cut, because serato will only work with it's own audio devices you'll still have to pay for ssl or itch hardware if you wanna use the vms4 with serato and the 4 deck mode in ssl or itch can only be activated with ssl or itch hardware because itch isn't midi mappable and serato would like the shirt of your back while they empty your wallet.
Innofader compatible? I like how he mentioned that...might try it, especially with that 4 deck traktor. Nice touch, AA, +2
Perhaps the price without the bundled software is 500,- while with Traktor Pro (not LE) is 700,-?
How much does this supa-vci weight ?
i might consider this instead of the A&H DX...
maybe the quality of soundcard or the analog mixer are not excellent
but then also if you use MP3s on Traktor i don't know if you really notice the difference
i really like the fact that it's an analog mixer too. because if i was going to sell my denon dnx-1500 and get the DX i would loose to many things
In the video he says "street price," which is almost always lower than MSRP on this type of stuff. The website will list MSRP, and the dealers will have their own price; presumably he has a sense of dealer markdowns when he gives the $500 figure. Definitely looks cool, and at $500 would be a pretty excellent value if the quality is there... that's as much as a VCI-100.
Noo... im still a : DX fan!!! Its built quality is not that good and those platters looks too heavy for a controller!
@Double DutchDj: thx for the answer. i got serato, all i want is a mixer whos crossfader will be recognized and "understood" by serato and ableton. So I can record mixtapes internal with serato-the bridge-ableton.i dont care at the moment about the 4 deck function. the two left over linefaders could be used for effects or other..but i am worried about wheter the crossfader will be recognized!?
Played with it for a while, some notes-
-Faders feel decent. Not great, but decent.
-Platter is not the old Pro Scratch wheel. It looks the same, but feels slightly rougher. It is actually pretty light, and overall satisfying. I wish they rubberized the top.
-Build quality is solid, surprisingly so.
-Mixer section is good.
-Headphone out could be louder.
Overall they have a winner.
@Gay Zombie,
how responsive was the platter? Typically when I think MIDI it usually means laggy and not very accurate, so i'd be very interested if its anything remotely close to vci 300's.
@cut if you're only worried about the fader envelopes you can do that manually within ableton live anyway - you dont have to draw them in with the hardware
@Gay Zombie, so all knobs are good quality? how solid is this thing does it have a plasticy feel or is it pretty tough?
cheer
it's made of solid steel. can't tell how much it weights but I had the chance to get my hands on at NAMM show and it is quite heavy.
GianPaJ : +1
The DX was on my list but the lack in the jog and hot cues buttons departments have stopped me.
@ Caper-the thing felt solid. Surprisingly so. I would gig with it.
@ Artic Joe-the platter response was not great, but that is because these were prototypes that were finished just before the show and had a bunch of bugs. These bugs won't be in the final version I'm told. I have to reserve judgment till I try a final version. The actual action on the platter was smooth, with just the right amount of weight.
$499 is what I was told as well and that is pretty good considering it comes with a 4 deck version of traktor duo. it does feel pretty solid. and as gay zombie mentioned, the one they had at the show were literally done a day or two before the event so it was still buggy. the platter response was not very good because the outside didn't act as the pitch bend as it should.
the knobs have a good feel to it, overall its not a bad product. the reason the headphone output is not that loud is because the millivolt output of USB is very limited and there are 120 or some odd LED's on the unit that need power as well.
I think they were able to adjust it by Saturday or Sunday of the show to make the headphone and the main output louder. maybe they should make it so that it can be used without the power adapter and have limited output strength and if its plugged in, you'll get more power.
In another demo video with an innofader installed, they show this unit has to be cut/modify to install the innofader, I'm not to keen on cutting into a new unit

now this actually looks good - and the price is very nice indeed - less than half of the xone dx!
No need to cut into a new unit to put in the Innofader. Just remove a plate on the bottom.
Also on Saturday and Sunday at NAMM we boosted the headphone output quite a bit so the loudness should be pretty decent at this point.
