SPY SHOTS: New Stanton mixer
Posted by Gizmo on November 8, 2009

What's this then?

stanton mystery mixer namm 2010

In the world of journalism, there are different levels of news leakage - some totally accidental, some carefully staged and some that… well… falls into a murky grey area of we don't care uncontrolled but controlled at the same time. I'm not sure where this one falls to be honest, but having found it, there appears to be no objections to me reproducing it here. It looks like Stanton may well be venturing back into familiar ground with a new mixer, but with more than a liberal scoop of new stuff thrown in.

Firstly, even when we had we had the equivalent of God coming to visit and received the customary "tidy up like it's how we look all the time" memo, my workspace never looked as anally squeaky clean as this. Whoever works in this space is the kind of no loose ends type you need working on new product.

But looking at the workspace, you'll notice the mixer - definite new Stanton styling, but when you focus on the faceplate area photo, this is where the real interest lies. It seems that Stanton are taking some of the SCS tech and grafting it into regular metaphors. I spy:

• 2 channels with pan and full kill EQs
• a 3rd channel (mic or aux) with the same fulll kill EQ
• effects on all 3 channels
• effects cueing
• some sort of measure control - 1/2 and 2x buttons

Quite what the buttons do is open to interpretation. They look to have been photoshopped out to hide the functions, so time will tell. I'm thinking MIDI, which would be very nice indeed. And I suspect the time will be January 2010 at the NAMM show. I'm pretty sure that at least one user of the skratchlounge has one of these and keeps teasing us in his demo videos when scratching with the SCS3 system, which does at least give some clues to the performance of the faders.

A much earlier version of this did seep out via the usual leaky bucket retailer channels earlier on this year, but from memory this new one has changed considerably since then. But let me state this plain and clear - I don't know the name, the features, the delivery date or price. All I have are these accidentally on purpose leaked photos. Someone will ask one of the above questions so please expect heaps of sarcasm if it's you who does. You should learn to read better.

Their support for SCS system still weird after 2 years of launch, and most gathered dust. I hope this doesn't have any midi. Stanton sucks big time in supporting MIDI integration.

Looks like an modified version of the Reloop IQ2 series andf that's also an OEM mixer (Citronic SM-FX200, DJ-Tech DJM-202 etcetera) with some cosmetic modifications.

Hey Reind - I can see why you might think that, but I believe it is something new to Stanton. I have no doubt that more info will be forthcoming soon enough to confirm or not. Or maybe even a cease and desist order might come first! Haven't had one of those in a while.

It's the Stanton M 207, a little bit more info here http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR318215;)

Hahaha... the Stanton PR machine fails utterly.

Looks nice.

None of the SCS products have been sold for 2 years. Only one of them has been sold for a year (the SCS.3d).

That is indeed the M.207. There's no photoshopping in that pic at all, and you can find quite a bit of information about it on the previously linked HTFR page or many others through Google.

I'm not sure that's quite fair. We've been more focused on making a decent mixer than hyping it. And while I'm not the one making the marketing decisions, I personally hope we keep taking this approach in the future - placing more of an emphasis on development than marketing.

I agree completely.

The mixer not having MIDI is good with my SCS 1m experience. The youtube cuts by future guy are impressive. Looks like they are learning from their mistakes. But, this time I will wait to see how this product goes. Do they have a launch date or it's the usual Stanton tease for another year.

- Gizmo, Sorry to be a little personal below. If inappropriate please remove my comment -
Mr. nem0nic. Didn't Stanton build up so much hype with SCS 1m and 1D. And, I lost my 1000 $ and I am unhappy like so many out there. As a concerned citizen I had voiced my opinion. May be I am wrong on the launch date, but there is no need for pointing out a mistake a customer does. Rather put effort to fix it. Anyway, I am happy to see you agreed that your MIDI integration sucks.

Little liberal with the Rane styling... Love ya Stanton! SCS3d is my fave!

Nem0nic, I have one request. It is very difficult to find the most current version of the SCS software for Traktor. I am constantly looking on the forums, checking if you have posted an update, then deciphering what beta, alpha, .002, 1.2, ????? Make it clear and simple with a single non beta, I can trust this version of the TSI. I know my gear and peoples gripes are well founded. Were smart cookies, if people are complaining Stanton needs to listen. Don't let those forums get you down (kick the crankiness down a notch it will add a few years to your life).

I NEVER said our MIDI integration sucks. I've always said that our hardware is ahead of what software right now is capable of supporting. We could have locked the SCS.1 hardware into a single software package, but we didn't. Time will tell if that was a bad decision or not.

What you ask for is clearly laid out on our forums. New presets will also be bundled in a new version of DaRouter that should be released next week. But in general, finalized presets are bundled into DaRouter.

As for your other comments, if my intent is to be "cranky", I'll be very clear about it (I'm not a subtle person). But you shouldn't take me (or anyone else) disagreeing with you as being cranky. I simply disagree. In the particular issue of preset access, I've already stated that this is an issue that we plan on addressing soon as part of a bigger change.

And as always, I'm extremely available and easy to contact - even by phone. So if you have a question that you can't easily find an answer to, an email or phone call to me will more than likely get you sorted.

Steve-O, you hit the nail bang on the head.

nemOnic (Weren't you the guy from M-Audio / Torq..... Sure we've bumped before, because the excuses are similar....), having hardware that's allegedly way ahead of available DVS is just about the best marketing falsehood I've ever heard. Stanton were sold down the river when Traktor Scratch Pro came out and caught you short, but I was stuck with my Scratchpad, and you have NEVER produced a TSI that functions CLEARLY. The new mixer looks nice, but no-one will buy it, because Stanton have a muddy reputation.

Now NI have unleashed the X1, and no doubt a full bodied mixer / soundcard / controller X2 will follow and everyone will ditch their SCS gadgets and use them for doorstops. Sorry to present this to you, but you've stepped up as a spokesman. I've been a club DJ for a long time, and Stanton will always be about cartridges for me, and nothing else.

Giz, loving your work baby!

Keep it on topic people. This is an M207 thread. If you want to voice your issues, Stanton's forums are the place to do it, or a thread in the Skratchlounge that is actually started on the subject...

Personally, I think the SCS units are pretty cool ... but what I love most about this article is the laptop in the photo sitting on TOP of other gear. ;)
