If I had to pick 1 event to go to this year - nay this decade, it would be this one. After the tragic accidental death of Grand Master Roc Raida, a string of benefit gigs have taken place, but the one happening in NYC next Thursday is perhaps the biggest gathering of scratch DJ talent seen in a very long time.
BB Kings is the place where legendary (and I'm not using the word casually either) DJs will come together to pay their respects, share fond memories and importantly hopefully raise a boatload of cash for Raida's family.
You just have to look at the roll call to see that this is going to be a very special and emotional event. You'll get to see not only the X-Ecutioners and X-men, but also the Beat Junkies AND a reunion of the Allies - which means Craze and A-Trak will be there. Z-Trip will be performing as well as DJ Scratch, Roli Rho, I-Dee, DJ Dummy, Slyce and current DMC champion Shiftee. This is all rounded off by a performance by D.I.T.C. Normally, such a list would be nearly impossible to pull together, but they're all coming together to perform to honour Roc Raida. Big ups to all those performing and involved in organising this.
ALL proceeds go to the family so it wouldn't be wise to go asking for guest lists. $20 in advance and $25 on the door. Tickets are available at Fatbeats,
Ticketmaster and the BB King office.
I hope and pray that this event is recorded. I for one will happily buy the DVD if one comes out.
So that the Tableturns Roc Raida tribute reunion gig - 22nd October at BB Kings in New York City. Door opens 10.30 and show starts at 11.15. Good luck guys. I really wish I could be there.
Man that sounds sick. I wish i was in ny. They should shoot a DVD and give the proceeds from sales to his family. I'd be the first to buy it.

R.I.P Roc Raida, you were one of the top Dj's Global. U will be remembered forever in the Dj Scene - Dj Bosman: Botswana
The show was freaking amazing! A veritable who's who of turntablism, and an amazing vibe to boot. Guest appearance by Busta Rhymes. More fantastic DJs than you could shake a stick at. Really, unbelievable.
My apologize to everyone. I had planned on taking some pics and sending them to Gizmo to post so those of you that couldn't make it could feel the vibe. Unfortunately I took my small little camera so it was easy to carry and our table was in a place where I couldn't get shots worth posting.
It was a fantastic night. Not only were there amazing DJ's but a supportive crowd (and shockingly almost no ego). I saw people that had flown in from China, the UK and all of the US. The place was packed! The line outside was the longest I've ever seen for a BB King event. I even heard from a few friends that they couldn't get in!
I sincerely hope the event not only lives as a tribute to Raida but raised enough money to ease the burden on his family.
Awesome - Thanks guys. Anyone else attend, we'd really like to hear from you if so. Hopefully there will be a DVD to immortalize the night and also add to what was made at the gate.
@ SpazzMatic : there were quite a few video cameras rolling the whole time so I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear of a DVD coming out.
Sweet. Thanks AgentZero.
