xone:DX?
Posted by Gizmo on September 20, 2009

allen heath xone:dx

I got a mail a short time ago from Allen & Heath informing me about the usual "we've got this and that on show at BPM", but there was an interesting line added to end - almost as an afterthought: "There will also be an exciting new product unveiled on the first day of the show". Hmmm… so exciting that all it got was a single throwaway line tagged on the end of an email. But then this above tab has appeared on the xone website, but it doesn't seem to lead anywhere right now.

So what exactly is the xone:DX? Well I have seen it, felt it and actually genuinely fell a little in love. I'm absolutely itching to tell you what it is but I fear I'd end up in quite a bit of trouble if I did. So you'll just have to wait until 3rd October - first day of the BPM show. It'll be worth the wait.

:push:

On September 20, 2009, just be sound commented...
let the rumors begin!!!!....
it's a new itch controller....
but i stole that from pilot2010..
that would be cool, maby if it's cheap enough, the ns7 will go down in price...

An A&H Itch controller would make me one very, very envious chap indeed. Kidney sales may have to be undertaken in order to acquire one.

In any, I think the smart money's on it being another controller in the vein of the Xone:2D and 3D, with a name like DX...

Or the super-secret Scratch mixer that CGDJ was fiddling with, but I don't think that's an A&H faceplate. :)

On September 20, 2009, djc commented...
With a name like DX I don't think it's a standard mixer because that would break from their current naming scheme. My money goes on it being a two deck and mixer type HID/Midi controller, or a control-only 4D... In any case I can't wait.

guys, the site owner is British, the company is pure breed British and on top of that it is not 10 miles above the surface like Denon or Pioneer. I saw Andy Rigby Jones once, talk to him shortly after that and a FULL year later he recognized and chatted to me at Musikmesse...now this is what I call a cool thing!

So I guess Gizmo is in no vein to lose exclusive information sources, hence I think its pretty much useless to bug him and we have to speculate ourselves.

My guess is away from a NS7 as that can only be made by a company both operative in decks and mixers, A&H clearly only makes mixers.

I think its more of a digital mixer, same size as the Xone 42 but with full Midi support, more in the direction of a Vestax product I guess and more geared for Traktor that for Scratch Live...

On September 20, 2009, Ddial commented...
Oh no! I just broke-in my Vestax VCI-300! Please don't tell me its for SSL or ITCH! But wait, A&H quality mixer for DVS/HID/MIDI?!.. NICE. Can't wait.

On September 20, 2009, dj_spark commented...
If I'm not mistaken, Denon and A&H are in the same holding company, so by these days they won't take a risk to do products that might fight on the same field, it would be like shooting in your foot with your own gun !

On September 20, 2009, DENON commented...
@spark

Yes, we are both under the D&M Holdngs umbrella

On September 21, 2009, XoneSpy commented...
It is indeed a controller and you can see a picture of it yourself here, screencapped from a Shockwave Flash file currently on their website (but perhaps not for long):

Looks like competition for the VCI-300 ...

On September 21, 2009, Matt Gnarly commented...
It definitely looks interesting, would prefer to see something with motorized platters like the NS7 though.

On September 21, 2009, DJMarshy commented...
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's a controller for Traktor Pro. Serato has the NS7 and VCI-300 for ITCH, M-Audio has the Xponent for Torq, but what's out there that's got native support FROM Native Instruments for Traktor? Not much, so that's where my money goes.

Just waiting to see the next shot with a big "Traktor Scratch Certified" tag hangin' off it.

Vindicate me, A&H! I'll buy!

On September 21, 2009, Base commented...
It already looks sexy. And if I'm right, there are 4 line faders = 4 channels.
Just... It looks kinda small.

On September 21, 2009, Strategy commented...
I don't really see any difference to the Xone: 4D:

Which means...jogwheels that suck (even for any kind of rudementary scratching and cutting)...NS7 and even the VCI-100/300 def score higher with their jogwheels IMHO!

On September 21, 2009, Gizmo commented...
@strategy - not everybody wants or needs to scratch or cut. Some DJs don't even use faders. The xone: *D range has been hugely popular without catering for tablists at all.

On September 21, 2009, Strategy commented...
@ Gizmo, I fully agree with you!
I do know and understand that most Djs who use the Xones don't care to much about scratching...but personally I can't help but feel sad that None of the XoneS come with better jogwheels (apparently including the new DX :hmm: )

Otherwise I myself would like to buy one and use it as a mobile unit, as I love the Allen & Heath HighQualityfeel...but so far because of the jogwheels it's a NoGo for me!
Still comtemplating about getting a single Xone 1D to control my cuepoints, loops and effects within traktor! :-D

@ Gizmo
I thought this was skratchworx, not mixworx? Just busting your chops, looking forward to the big reveal.

On September 22, 2009, Ross G commented...
Very similar to the 4D but its gona be Hid /Midi controller usb powered

mainly for Traktor pro esp due to having 4 line faders

yeah just as every one said A&H answer to the vci / xponent ect ect

bleedin obvious really lol

On September 22, 2009, Double DutchDj commented...
Finally, access to all four decks in traktor, WITHOUT having to press a bleedin shift button. PLEASE god let there be a built in sound card too. Fingers crossed it'll give vestax a kick up the arse to making a true 4 deck controller, rather than that laime kop out the vestax TR-1, which is already out of date thanks to the latest feature heavy Traktor 1.2 update.

Hopefully this is why the DX has been held back till now, dedicated area's for the recently added extra fx units would make me very happy!!

On September 22, 2009, JohnDP commented...
@Matt Gnarly: this site is formally called "skratchworx" but it focuses on everything for mixing, hence the attempt of Gizmo at that "skratch.dj" site so that perhaps he could eventually separate the two types of mixing...

Compared to other sites it is still very much focused on scratching, i.e. DMC battles, videos with a lot of cutting and scratching...YET at the meantime it happens to have very good inside information of several companies, whose products are not always scratch oriented.

The result is that prior to appearance of these products, Skratchworx is perhaps the best site there is for such information, meaning that also a lot of non-scratch DJ's like me browse the information on here...

Sorry for the OT.

I saw this http://www.decks.co.uk/products/allen_heath/Xone_DX and was disappointed to see it advertised for Serato Itch. I was hoping for a Traktor Pro controller. :hmm:

Bad link. Let's try again. [url=http://www.decks.co.uk/products/allen_heath/Xone_DX[/url]

On September 22, 2009, carrots commented...
Why do people have such a downer on ITCH? It's really good and makes units plug and play without all that MIDI config tosh.

On September 22, 2009, O.D. commented...
Damnit. I'm not too sure how to post a link i guess. I'll try again. if it doesn't work, I guess just copy and paste it. address

On September 22, 2009, O.D. commented...
Nothing against Itch. It's o.k. i guess. I just think theres more capabilities with Traktor Pro.

On September 23, 2009, jstunt commented...
Niceee, they have used the same image I edited :)
Just a wild guess...I bet the Serato ITCH 2.0 with effect support will be released at the same time with this A&H unit and the effect control is built-in...

On September 23, 2009, Base commented...
Not Itchhhhhhh :((((

On September 23, 2009, denias commented...
Can Mr Skratchworkx confirm its an ITCH controller?

On September 23, 2009, ccxlr8r commented...
Do the math kidz...

4D - analog + Serato approved soundcard + xtra MIDI controls + bidirectional software integration = Xone DX

On September 23, 2009, JonnyLove commented...
Serato have been saying that Itch 2.0 will be shown at BPM and hey who knows it might well have support for 4 decks and effects and such like. They have been saying it will be more modular so who knows. Really glad it is for Itch as Tractor is just far to reliant on me looking at my screen and using a mouse rather than use a controler and have a list of music. don't get me wrong I like Tractor but it's getting to the point their puuting to much in it.

On September 23, 2009, markski commented...
If NI are going to hang onto their lead in the DJ software i.e. non-DVS market, they need to get a few more hardware manufacturers pushing out Traktor Certified controllers/HID interfaced products imho.

On September 23, 2009, Strategy commented...
@ Markski - I agree 100%....also N.I. seriously needs to come out with more Merch for the Traktor Community as requested sooo often on the N.I. Forum!!

On September 23, 2009, mario commented...
mixvibes has partnered with pioneer (very clever move), serato with ableton and now a&h. i think NI needs to do something fast. why dont they make partnership with technics and rule the all :-D

On September 23, 2009, Strategy commented...
@ Mario - Serato with Ableton??? Got anything official on that? :hmm:
As far as i know those are and were just rumours and user-wishes!
But Serato also has UDG (Bags) as well as Rawkus Records and Ninja Tunes (Vinyl) as partners...N.I. make a move!!
I mean I love my traktor but I'm seriously getting jealous of all the merch and partnerships Serato has!

Sorry for OT!

On September 23, 2009, SpazzMatic commented...
@Strategy
Serato and Ableton made that official announcement end of last year or early this year. See link below...

http://www.ableton.com/serato-partnership

On September 23, 2009, Strategy commented...
@ SpazzMatic, thanks for the link!
I remember reading something like that early this year on some dj-forum as as no product and no further info, only a lot of speculation and hoping came forth since, I thought it was all just founded on a rumor and on userwishes....glad to have som official info now thou!

A time will come when I might have to switch from Traktor to.......Oh well for now let's wait and see....With one of the future updates traktor is supposed to get a majorly-advanced-sampler added...We'll see how much remix-capability that will further add!
Sorry for OT...again... :$

On September 24, 2009, dj madness commented...
im hoping this contoller works well with traktor, even if it is designed for itch.

I would love to see NI make their own traktor specific contoller. they have shown with Maschine that they can make decent quality contol hardware.

On September 28, 2009, Kosta X commented...

my attempt at a mock-up of what i'd like to see.

forgot to add the pitch faders, and the big blue cue pause, and cue play buttons as pretty obvious from the teaser image provided from A&H.

i see this as a midi controller and mixer hybrid, with an integrated sound card - made for traktor pro, and the new 4 fx banks.

Xone DX FYI: Release date January 2010. Guitar Center Chain has 100 alloted for delivery in February. Price $1299. personally ordered one and can't wait to get hands on.

On December 31, 2009, D commented...
Already pre-ordered mine as an upgrade from the VCI-300. The VCI was all in all a good controller, however the limitations on it killed me, even with the separate fx controller.

I have to say though the spacing of the knobs on the VCI were pretty ace, and Allen and Heath have always been known for their spacing issues for me. Lets see what comes of it when I get it.

Here is a my last mini mix I made with the VCI, enjoy: http://bit.ly/nn8Sl

FYI
the other mixes in this profile are not mine just the one :)
