Welcome Woody Madera

Dj Woody Madera body snatchers aquasky passenger mixtape

Aside from my deceased but now resurrected broadband line, it seems the last few weeks have seen more than the usual number of losses in the world. But one specifically related to the DJ world is that of DJ Woody. But fear not - it's in name only. DJ Woody is dead - long live Woody Madera. And in a parting gesture, he's got together with The Bodysnatchers and put out one last mixtape under the old DJ Woody moniker.

I guess Lee Woodvine has had enough of trying to own the DJ Woody name. Googling will bring up all styles of Woodys from wedding DJs to Techno heads. So it's not exactly an uncommon name for a DJ of course and has seen an almost Spartacus style feeling for our own Woody. Here's what he said in his blog:
You may have noticed the increased use of 'Woody Madera' as opposed to 'DJ Woody', after 6 years deliberation this will become my artists name and i'll be phasing out the use of 'DJ Woody'. Why you might ask. Simply put I've never been happy with the name, it became my artist name by default as Woody is my nickname, however since that's also the nickname for anyone with a surname containing 'Wood' inevitably it seems half the DJ population of the world have called themselves DJ Woody. Not wanting you folks to get confused here's Woody Madera! Why 'Madera', well my friend Yarah Bravo suggested it back in the One Self touring days, 'madera' means 'wood' in Spanish, i think Woody Madera has a good ring to it and 'madera' looks dope as a graffiti tag. Simple. Done.

So as of now, umpteen times World Champion DJ Woody is no more, and is reborn as Woody Madera - in demand globally touring DJ, recording artist, producer and proud father.

But before he laid the DJ Woody name to rest, he got asked to craft Body Snatchers material with into one flowing 60 minute mix for Passenger Records.

Believe it or not one of the most creative minds to hit the scratch DJ scene this millenium doesn't hail from the Bronx or Brooklyn but in fact Burnley in the UK. Lee Woodvine AKA DJ Woody has invented a whole host of groundbreaking scratch and turntable techniques, helped Vestax to design the Worlds first ever musical turntable instrument & has 5 major UK and World DJ titles to his name.

With 3 critically acclaimed mix albums and an impressive CV of collaborative recordings Woody has worked with the industries most revered producers. He's toured with Madlib (Stones Throw), recorded with Aquasky (Moving Shadow/Passenger) & Tim Simenon (Bomb The Bass) and was a member of DJ Vadim's world famous touring outfit The Russian Percussion making up one quarter of Ninja Tunes' supergroup One Self.

Now Woody has taken on a new challenge. He was offered the chance to take all the previous Body Snatchers material along with a host of exclusives from the band and also fresh material from the label owners Aquasky and turn out a 60 minute mix that showcases his talent in 2009. Containing exclusive freestyles with a host of rappers from the US and UK and a truckload of world class scratch routines, Woody Madera comes with one of the most exciting scratch DJ mixes since DJ Q-bert took hold of DJ Shadow’s back catalogue 10 years ago for the seminal Mo Wax label...

So get ready to have your ears assaulted by the sounds of Dubstep, Hip Hop, House and Electro all mashed up into an hour of mind bending skills.

As the old proverb goes, "Judge a man by the company he keeps!"

You can grab the CD from many a trendy music store right now. And Woody - that suit you're wearing is a close second to the Adidas Europa option for your wedding.

CD is only £1.99 at aquasky.co.uk, but the registration for clickandbuy almost makes you wish you paid £6 more somewhere else.

Oh wow! I been thinking of changing my DJ name for the same reason. I'm one of the "TECHNOHEADS" DJ Woody's. The other "TECHNOHEAD" I belive is WOODY VAN EYDEN from Europe. I'm from LA. lol.

Just to clear things out, Woody's been my name since high school back in the early 90's. Everytime I tried changing it, it wouldn't work. People still called me Woody. Just like him, I don't like my nickname either! lol But I got stuck.

I've seen Woody Madera's videos on YouTube and he's sick! I'd like to meet him one day. Keep it up Señor Madera.
