Numark's PRO SMX frappe les rues

Numark Pro SMX Pro X Fade France

I read on a couple of sites about Numark's über scratch mixer the Pro SMX hitting the streets. Obviously not receiving any PR at all made me stomp around the skratchlab and fire off emails to high ups at Numark Towers. And I've come away with a feeling of total confusion. Allow me to explain.

When the first whispers of the Pro SMX first hit, I was told that it was a French only thing. Numark's profile in France sees them as a top tier company with the French DJs loving the hell out of Numark decks and mixers (hence seeing the likes of C2C still rocking old Numark product). I'm led to believe that the Pro SMX was made in conjunction with their French distributor ALGAM strictly for the French market but for whatever reason, the PR has come out of US with US pricing and is also allegedly available from the Numark store in the US. Yeah - I'm confused too.

As far as I'm aware, the Pro SMX will be available in France and possibly Germany. Eventually, we may see it hit the rest of Europe and the US, but for now, you can expect to pay 699 euros for this - £590 by this morning's exchange rate. Ouch. It's an extremely capable lump of mixer, but even with the Pro X Fade, independent cross fader curves, FX loop (but no wet/dry) and what looks to be a heavyweight build quality, that's a big price tag that I'm not sure the rest of the world will be prepared to pay.

Message to Numark - the skratchworx audience is global so I'd appreciate getting ALL PR. I know I'm based on the little island off the coast of Europe, but only 15% of the traffic comes from the UK.

I know you guys are going to start posting questions about "Why doesn't this thing have an Innofader" so let me get started here.

I did approach Numark several times about using the Innofader in this mixer. They didn't want it because apparently their customer i.e. Numark's French distributor asked for the Pro SMX mixer as is, including the Pro X Fade. As Gizmo hints, this really is a creation for the French market with Numark apparently taking a stab at other markets too.

We sell tons of Innofaders in France so there definitely is a market for the Innofader in France. All we can do is suggest mixer companies at least make Innofader compatible mixers if they don't want to go through the expense or risk of using the Innofader as standard equipment.

Unfortunately, the switches in the front leave just barely enough space for the Pro X Fade so swapping it for an Innofader probably isn't an option, at least until we come up with a mini version.

read the features..said nothing bout the upfaders..for that price all 3 faders should be of the same high quality.

as far as the xfader goes..i bet most dj's would rather see the innofader installed instead of the PXF.

It's been 2 years since the 08Pro and the Rodec Scratchbox. Now Numark introduces a mixer in that hefty price range but the only thing new it's offering is nice feet?

And I don't think the (questionable) analog signal paths will matter that much in an industry now ruled by DVS

Yeah I don't get it. No wet/dry fader either for external FX, sux. At this price tag I bet it won't find a large consumer base.

Well Im a trully fan of Numark's Products, here in Spain there is not so much to buy for because turntablism is still not too much Known and barely rare shops sell products, but well,i own a PRO-DMX Mixer and for 2 week i instaled a Innofader and trully i love it right now,but insteed in mine there is too much left.

Looking at this new mixer bring me memories of the old Pro-SM1 and 2 but still the PXF and everything didnt cost that price, insteed i will look foward to it,the No wet/dry fader sucks and well the good thing is the XLR Balanced output and the fader, most of Turnatblist didnt menage to have a wet/dry,such as i but insteed it still Look interesting for me. :D Will have to grab my Christmas money :D

Greetings From Spain! :x:

Muuuaaahhahah... $800 USD,,, are they out of their d@m minds. What a frickin' joke. Have they looked at the state of the economy (globally). I'm sorry but Numark is currently in La La land.

Far too expensive for what is essentially a M3 with a faceplate, better faders and more curve control.

Ripoff.

Bloody french bastid's!! first they bring your posse to DMCs every year with the french horns and the whistles competing in the crowd for biggest support and noise, selling wine and snails and shieet,. far as im concerned they can choke on this over priced door stop,..

£590 for an SM-1 with a Pro-X, session in, adjustable line fader curves & reverses and effects send/rcv? Presumably Numark have widened the fader slot in the face plate because in a standard SM-1 the PRO-X stem hits the sides. Baring in mind I paid £299 for my SM-1 and the price of a Xone:02, £400 tops for this I reckon. Co-incidentally former Numark artists Birdy Nam Nam are using Rane now, at least for mixers/DVS.

Numark Pro SM series are still very popular in France, but now there're quite old. But a lot of people still use and love them.
None of the following Numark scratch mixers (especially the digital ones) is really polular here (think Rane etc...).So i see the Pro SMX as a tentative to capitalise on the reputation of the old pro SM series.

BTW, the price is insane.

I have all the Numark pro SM line, the SM1/2/3 and 3 spare SM1's off ebay,I don't think this new model is worth the $800 price when you compare it to the competition
I'll wait a year for someone to trade it in the shop for a RANE or ECKLER or something else...

Chop like $200 USA bucks off the price and MAYBE you can think it is a deal...

Im a little confused. Looking for some info on the numark web site i found the opposite of what is being said here: it is sold for USD299.99 and shipment only to the US. This price surprises me as much as the USD800.

By the way, im looking for a mixer with fader and crossfader curve control and if possible balanced sound outputs, but my budget is maximum 350€, and since i find the PRO SMX out of my budget, Any suggestions?
Thanks.
