Apparently it was Audio Innovate. But why? It didn't have the glitz and showbiz of Pioneer, or the amazing technological display of Stanton. But it did have DJs - lots of them all having a great time. And it's fair to say that I did have a small hand in it. Allow me to explain.
Chatting as I do with Elliot, owner of
Audio Innovate, I suggested that to get some real exposure in the UK, he should take a stand at the
BPM show. The problem was that he had nobody to actually man the thing, but I explained that I knew of some friends who could the job for him - the good people of
Pedestrian. So the plan was hatched to hook AI and Pedestrian up with a view to pimping the Innofader and the all new AEM-100i to the UK masses.

Happy that I was able to hook up my long time friends with new kid on the block for some mutual promotion, I had one of those toilet epiphanies - sat pondering the complexities of life (well running a trade show stand) and it came to me - I could run a battle on the stand... thus the Pedestrian and skratchworx BPM battle was born.
Obviously, Pedestrian's primary concern was all about showing off the Innofader to the gathered BPM crowd, which was done in eloquent style. Well... 3 sets of decks and a handful of loud banners is rather more in your face than subtle but it worked big time. The stand was always full of DJs and potential AI and Pedestrian customers, and the small perma-crowd enjoyed the displays of regular power scratching.

Above all however, everyone loved the Innofader. It was slotted into 2 Vestax 05s and immediately loved by all who used it.
Sapphires has just struck an exclusive deal with AI for a delivery of
Innofaders, and I suspect that they'll be gone pretty quick. But what did surprise me the most was the reception to the AEM-100i. Battlers like things to be just right for them, but it's fair to say that a good number actually chose to use the AEM in preference to the other Vestax mixers. More on the battle in another story.

Summing up, the stand was a massive success. Always busy, pimping product and keeping the crowds and DJs happy. It was just so cool that 3 sets of decks were available to play with however they saw fit, rather than restricting access to just a select group of pass waving VIPs. People of all skill levels and styles jammed together and had a great time.

It was a huge amount of work to make everything happen, but I'm already thinking about how I can do something like it next year. Huge thanks to Elliot at AI and Lauren at Pedestrian for making it happen. Also massive thanks to the assorted Pedestrian volunteers as well as Rasteri, Wax On and the various BPM battlers for keeping the crowds happy. Big thanks to current DMC World Supremacy champ DJ Switch for spending excessive amounts of his own time jamming with DJs. And thanks to 2 x DMC UK champ Skully for stopping by.

Like I said earlier, I'm working on the battle story. But while you wait, check out the
Audio Innovate stand gallery in my Flickr account. Random footage will appear as well.
post some vids and lets see what the lads sound like on the best fader ever manufactured. and send one to Kurteek, his Rane's all fucked up and coldcutcombo forget to renew their domain name or some shit.
p.s. Nice work Giz.
what a low table! looks like a good turn out.. great work.
@spidermonkey - i'll be in touch with kurteek
looked like a sick booth
I had a great time

Nice idea Giz. Thanx for the YouTube post Spidermonkey.
My special thanks go out to Gizmo and Pedestrian for making this happen.
Spidermonkey - thanks for the post!
Rasteri - thanks for coming to BPM and performing. What did you think of the Innofader feel?
The Innofader is butter - proper nice
weetamix take a fix of funk
Well remembered - can't believe it was nearly twenty years ago! Showing my age now!

kurteek has a rane bro the inny won't fit it
bus damn teek is crazy crazy ill
kurteek has a rane bro the inny won't fit it.
yer half right. before the coldcut site went down he was talking about how he had beat the fader in his Cincuenta y seis to shit and was thinking about making a move to the inno.
achtung! Kurteek is without a totaly functional crossfader. This is an international scratch crisis like the fact that Yanks like me are now floatin' the Berbatov contract on some AIG bailout shit.
If I wanted to do some underground "branding," and I was hustlin product, I'd damn sure be trying to get that Kurteek guy to use my gear.
werd.
dj blast - is that ben blast?
no it's just blast
@weetamix..ain't we funkin' now..yes!
you just can't forget..lol
I loved the innofader - going back to my urei's stock fader when I got home was nasty. I'll buy one when my paycheck comes

The innofader was very smooth on the hand will it fit in an 07?
Sole 1, et. al: the 07 is no problem. For a complete list of compatible mixers go here:

Theother question I'd like to ask you all is how is the cut on the Innofader? I tried to get it as sharp and as consistent as possible.
Hey I've checked out the TTM-56 circuit. It isn't too difficult to get the Innofader working electronically, but the spacing on the fader mounting holes is much smaller. At the minimum you'd have to drill holes spaced 65mm apart and if you can live with the Innofader ramming into the mixer body, put some padding on the mixer so it doesn't click. Anyone know if there's actually space in the TTM-56 to fit the Innofader (77mm*45mm*13mm body)?
We already had a brave soul fit the Innofader in the Empath (with my help on adapter wires):

So maybe a similar solution is in order for Kurteek?

Why does the Innofader cost 50% more in the UK? It does my f*cking head in.
Steve - The Innofader sells in the UK for about 98 pounds from Sapphires which comes out to about $160US. Dealers in the US are selling it for around $115-$120. The extra cost comes from VAT and customs taxes. If you purchased the Innofader from the US these costs plus overseas shipping costs would get added onto the price.
i spoke with kurteek and hes looking into an innofader for his 07pro. at the 2007 namm show, he broke the crossfader on the mackie d2 at the mixvibes booth. and now his ttm56 is broken, this guys a beast! but very skilled!
How did Kurteek break the TTM-56? The only issue I'm aware
of is some heavy handed DJs have managed to snap the plastic endcaps of the TTM-56 fader.
he didn't break it. he just practiced a lot on it to get whur he at. It doesn't matter how good a fader is made....they all break down eventually...even if it's just standard wear and tear. it's just a question of how long.
@ Audio innovate
The Innofader feels solid, is smooth as hell and the cut in is really tight!
The only thing that is holding me back from putting it in my 08 is the fader cap. Unlike most other people, I am not a fan of the 'pointy style' fader cap. I much prefer the 'squared style' fader cap that Vestax and various other manufactures offer.
Any thoughts on offering an alternative fader cap?
@Sinical - The tooling is very expensive and the demand is small, so it will be some time before we can do this. As we get bigger it will become easier to expand what we offer. I hear you.
found this too. Some footage towards the end...
