Having established that the digital revolution has the scene in a frenzy right now, you can be sure that Numark have all bases covered. The area of growth that seems to have gathered the most interest in recent times is the MIDI controller, with every Tom, Dick and harry coming out with their own interpretation of how to implement 30 year old technology into the modern DJ scene. Now Numark have got their own product to address this ever growing need - the Total Control USB/MIDI controller.

NUMARK INTRODUCES TOTAL CONTROL USB / MIDI TABLETOP DJ SOFTWARE CONTROLLER

Control your favorite DJ software with traditional DJ hardware

Cumberland, RI – January 1, 2007. Numark, the world’s leading brand of professional DJ equipment and the driving force behind the High-Tech musical revolution, is proud to introduce their innovative Total Control DJ software controller.

Designed with Numark’s “users-first” approach and driven by extensive DJ and developer field testing, Total Control is the missing link for software DJs who yearn for the control they left behind when they switched from traditional mixer to the multi-processing power of laptop DJing. It is now easier than ever for DJs to maximize the potential of their digital music arsenal, trading in time-wasting mouse control for the traditional hardware to which they are accustomed. This fully class-compliant USB MIDI device is the ultimate for any performing computer DJ.

Total Control’s easy-to-use interface is similar to popular Numark crossfader and jog-wheel-based mixing stations like the iDJ² and NuVJ. Total Control’s 31 buttons, 20 knobs and 5 faders send MIDI data from the controller to your DJ software of choice, making the inconvenience of mouse or glide-pad software control a thing of the past. No assignment of software parameters for the Total Control is necessary – simply connect the controller to a computer with a USB cable, enable it on the user’s computer’s “config” menu, and watch the virtual controls respond to Total Control’s actions. It couldn’t be easier.

Considering Numark’s renowned track record in the world of DJ mixers and CD players, it’s a given that Total Control’s layout is optimized for ease of use. Any DJ will be up and mixing on the Total Control within minutes of connection to a Mac OSX or Windows XP computer. And with its USB connectivity, there are no drivers needed. Total Control is USB bus powered, so no adapter is needed, and it also features a Kensington security slot, for secure theft protection.

The Total Control comes packaged with Numark’s Cue Lite and Native Instruments’ Traktor LE software, with already-mapped controls and overlay “skins” for both applications. The functionality of both software packages allows PC and Mac users to play, scratch and mix both audio and video files simultaneously, opening up more mix possibilities than ever before.

But Total Control isn’t limited to a select few DJ software options – DJs can use this powerful controller with any DJ software application that supports MIDI. There is no need to relearn a new software application with the Total Control – users have total control of this unit’s powerful capabilities.

Numark CEO Jack O’Donnell says, “Numark’s Total Control is an exciting new controller that allows DJs to make the most of their favorite DJ software while still using time-tested mixing hardware. Numark is proud to help push DJ technology ahead, while still giving users all the tools they need to excel at their craft.”

What'll pricing be? And please let us upgrade the Cue software!

This would be absolutely uber for my mobil DJ'ing jobs, would save me a lot of space, time & money.
Gonna ditch my CDXs for this or an iCDX, since i've been using Traktor for a while now and it'sabsolutely wonderful.

Yeah yeah! I want it!

Oh, I forgot M-Audio will announce their midi controller in just 3 hours rolleyes.gif

The more I look at it, the more I love it. If it's under 200$ USD, I'm buying it. M-Audio's controller has to be something revolutionnary to make me buy it instead of Total Control.

Now if they made one of these with the DJ I/O built in... smile1.gif

I must say it looks neater than the Vestax VCI-100. However, I'm hoping on NI presenting their own solution as well.

I wonder if in Cue, I could use this as "main" controller for all the functions but still use the timecode function with my CDX at the same time...

This is just what I've been waiting for!! I was considering the X-session pro, but I may hold off to find out pricing on this. Looks real easy to use and solid.

The vestax VCI-100 looks way better...

sav: I´am with you. The Vestax VCI-100 looks way better and its more "pro" in it than this one, but now is the question;

1. prices
2. which one will work best with Traktor

On 18-01-2007 22:21, D Square commented...
Pulse :
I have not read compatiblity on the VCI-100 but on Newmark's quick guide, it states that it's Traktor ready. And it comes with Traktor overlays.

both should work with tracktor since both are MIDI controllers. one may work better than the other based on layout, controller type, etc., but that's probably a personal preference.

This looks the same as this
http://www.ion-dj.com/iCUE.php
hardware wise. The ion version is supposed to sell for around $149. The Numark will probably be more but with a better software package.

On 18-01-2007 23:56, Kyran commented...
The numark has the better colourscheme.

A pity there's no soundcard in there, but for that price you can hardly complain.

On 19-01-2007 01:03, Ravine commented...
This looks exactly the same as the Hercules DJ mixing console just rebranded and different colors. We all know that VDJ is the basis for Numark's Software DJ programs and all they're doing is revamping and rebranding.

This isn't essentially bad of course if they manage expectations and remove all the shortcomings of previous products.

The hell with everything else... HOw much is it. I have been serching for months with no and I mean no luck. I was slightly dissapointed because N.I did not come out with a controller of there own for traktor in namm. The vestax joint looks ok and Its works pretty well but I dont like the fact that I have to toggel back and forth throught the effects cnannels and not everything is not laid out (I mean damn that is what Im paying for) huh.gif Hopefuly this is it for me. To sum it up up Hercules... WACK, Behringer BCD2000 gets the big Booooooooooo!!!!!! for trying to sell us the same thing in a new package Instead of fixing the software it came with in the first place. what else oh yea the xone well it costs as much as my lap top so thats a no, I didnt even try it.

Now I'd consider this if it were considerably cheaper than the vestax. But if it's going to be 350 euro streetprice, then I'll gladly spend a bit more to get the vestax.

I have only one question
Does it have audio inputs (phono/line) to attach 1200's?
Vestax VCI-100 doesn't wacko.gif
Behringer BCD-2000 does have it love.gif
So once again did DJ device industry is tapping in the dark (like usual) or has it delivered a supreme product on a market?

Thank u,

The product is not a rebranded Hercules, it was developed entirely in house at Numark. Numark invests substantially in product development and has several R&D centers worldwide.

For all those of you wanting to know the price it is $249.99

This site has a video where they demonstrate the product using Cue, unfortunately no demonstration of how it works with Traktor.

Tested the unit last WE here in paris @ SIEL expo with the Numark software : CUE. (in fact it is Virtual DJ redesigned and half of the VDJ team was on the Numark stand too rolleyes.gif ).

Despite my dislike for the software, this controler is OK, but still acting like a toy, the jog is too soft and free on rotating, sliders aren't very precise, so beatmixing is very very very difficult.

The software doesn't like to pitch bend too, so you're always arround the point but not dead on it.

If I have too choose, I surely take this one over a Behringer or a Hercules, but for me it is still in the "toy class", even if it is one of the better I have tested in this category.

For people asking for audiofeature, keep in mind that a midi controler is for... send midi message : nothing else.
Everything else is confort, I prefer to have a very good controller (Vestax ?) with no sound than a unit at the same price WITH sound included : sound or control should be weak then...

BUT ! if Vestax does a VCI with soundcard included, I'll we pleased to pay for it. toung.gif

bcd-2000 "performance" issues. I have been dj'ing for a while, so i didn't really give the bcd-2000 an easy night. But, I thought I could at least get a reliable and steady performance... well not on my last gig.
I know some of you have rave reviews, but I never had to reboot my 1200's during a gig. (of course I had a backup - don't even ask, the ipod ran the show until I could bring up the software again). that was a bummer. I should burn mp3 CDs and work it with real hardware - that's my conclusion - if you want to last a whole gig..

It looks interesting, but it does not look it has any headphone jack, so will you have to to do some weird configuring with your soundcard for cueing?

The price is right. The Vestax is over 400 bucks and I hear the Hercules is not very good. No one seems to have them yet and most sites say coming in May 2007
