click for higher res Each year, Denon bring us a surprise or 2 just in time for PLASA. 2004 saw 2 scratch mixers and a mini player, last year brought us the potentially great DN-S3500 (still waiting for that unit guys so we don't know for sure...) and this year D-Day arrives with what feels like a tiny fanfare rather than a Denon roar. Snapping at the heels of Cortex and Numark, Denon are previewing (it's not ready yet) the DN-HD2500 - a dual head HD based player with USB and a built-in 2.5" HD. Details are thin other than the picture and brief details being shown over at
the Denon DJ forum. So at last Denon have a USB player in their lineup - well they will have once it gets to market. Clearly sending out a signal to their competitors, Denon are embracing the computer age and have outlined a product that gives you all the best features of dual head players but takes it a step or 2 further. It comes with a built-in 2.5" HD so you'll always have music with you, but also links to a laptop that will run a rudimentary playlist manager. But because of the USB port, you're not limited to the internal HD - all manner of USB devices can be used and can be operated via a keyboard as well.
The HD2500 boasts everything you'd expect from a player and does look rather like a pair of cut down DN-S1000s with a big screen dropped right in the middle. Each deck has effects, loops, hot starts and despite the diminutive size of the platter, it has a scratch mode as well. The screen looks impressive and big ups to Denon for the choice of artist on deck 1.
It's be on display at the DJ Expo in Atlanta but not working. And it's a matter of look but don't touch as it'll be in a case. And read this carefully - I have no information on price and availability. The time from being under glass at a show to final product can be as much as 6 months.
Sorry for the lack of info - I've brought you as much as I could find. And no - the 3500 update still isn't out, so you'll still have to wait for us to tear it apart.
So thats pretty much every manufacturer worth mentioning with something like this now... the screen looks like a good addition though, and the input choices couldn't be much more comprehensive. I can't wait till some of this gear starts actually coming out...
looks like a spaceship missile control rather than a dj product. hd instead of record crates?
and you still need a mixer for this product and i see some effects but no knobs for changing the parameters - should this be done via the display? another bug of this unit could be the following: this thing is going to be installed in a rack - so if i want to use it and bring my usb gear to a show it migth not be easy to plug this shit in - it makes no sense to hide the usb connection at the back.
Pitch resolution?

Interesting.. Have 2 see how it runs when it comes out.
the image in their website artwork header, i have had that as a wall paper before.. didnt realise it was to do with denon.. especially as i think its a pioneer djm600 and a set of techs.
Weird eh?
I think their designer has been using google images

It looks rather nice. Has allot of features too. But I am afraid about the price

Don't worry about USB port connections, either a active usb extension cable or a hub can be used. They should REALLY have a usb hub built into the dn-x1500s, that would make alot of sense !
Mike
j., the effects parameter knob is the same as the track select knob, low center of the unit.
Looks very sweet, still trying to decide if i should take my laptop + 2x iCDX or 2 CDJ1000s on the road when i play mobile DJ jobs, still pissed at stanton for selling me a defective FinalScratch and not giving a damn.
oh man, forget it. not to hate on denon, but is the interface luttered as hell, or is it just me?...i guess this is how the mobile djs like it though, so its all good.
I'll hold my comments until the unit actually comes out and I can put hands on it.
here's to nano djing. lol

well well just waiting for pioneer to join the party.

Hopefully it will be better tested than the s3500 :embarrest
Agreed!
I just hope they move the CUE & PLAY buttons to the classic side-by-side position that I'm so used to using for the last 10 years on Dual Denon CD Players......
The A/C Dj Expo pictures I took:

Nice pics Axledental, even with torq
Pitch resolution will have both .05% and .02% increments if you play from USB stored files. Using cds, it will depend if its the 4000 or 4500 cd drive.
if the forthcoming DN-HD2500 had Tascam TTM-1 connectivity option it could be a real breakthrough... Mixing and scratching on real decks with mp3s without a laptop!
ahh what a wonderful dream... isnt it?
I wish denon really did it. or made their own accessory similar to ttm1....
wottabout price?..
who know?
The Denon 2500 sites PULLED!!

what is going on???
Was the project Scrapped?
Or are they close to release?
I think the Denon unit was possibly announced a long way ahead of it being ready. I think NAMM in January will see working units on the Denon stand, but who knows when it'll be ready.
I HAD AN E-MAIL FROM DENON,, AND THEY SAID THAT IS GOING TO COME OUT FROM 4-7-07 TO 4-15-07......
