Click for hi res The Rane 56 is universally accepted at the Don of the scratch mixer scene. But let's be honest - it looks as dull as a dull day in dullsville. Step up Spensoar and his customer 56 plates. Exchange the metal faceplate for one of his clear plates, insert your own graphics and you've pimped your 56 big style.
It's a simple idea that I've often thought about but never progressed. My gut reaction was that plexiglass wouldn't last 2 minutes with a scratch DJ. But Spensoar tells me it's not your off the shelf plastic but something much more wear resistant that's much better suited to this heavy application. Being a smart cookie, Spensoar has gotten himself all lawyered up and patents for this idea are submitted and pending approval.
I see a huge internet scene for this kind of product. Being able to take the layout drawing for the plate, you can design your own and print them out on any old inkjet. I imagine the download section on

might well see some action in this area for sure.
Spensoar is currently setting up a website for the plates and should be selling them for $30 including shipping. International orders will be subject to additional postage costs. And should this first venture prove successful, then more plates will follow.
Update:To get your own plate, Spensoar is now taking orders at customplates@sbcglobal.net. You can use paypal, check or money order.
One is on it's way to skratchworx towers and will be pimping my Rane asafp!
Nice, i have seen custom plates that you can have made up for the Vestax PMC06 but this takes things forward. I like the idea of being able to have a design for each day of the week or something like that. This persumes that the designs can be quickly changed though.
The only thing i see is you have to put the markings on if you want them (which i do perfer). If would be nice if the plastic had the markings on for me but i can see that not everybody would want the markings.
Now wish i had a Rane to pimp, 909 next please.
Word, 707/909 lower plate.
i swear, the more time i spend on my friends' 707's, the more i love that mixer...who wants to buy me one?
Custom modded electronics is being seen everywhere...ride the wave baby

Wozza, you got a link for the custom PMC06 plates? You know if they do them for the Pro D variant?
Main story: This looks a very, very good idea. I would definately get one for my mixer if they made one for that.
This idea was actualy done by another company some years ago so it's not new! However, it is a good idea and good luck. I am sure a SW logo would look cool on your mixer.
This idea isn't new...how many of you remember Bugglass?
People weren't interested in it.
i have to get this for my djm707
Good lookin out Giz.
And this isnt exactly the same as bugglass. Junebugg did have the art tip locked on that though. Those plates had the art airbrushed directly on the glass. So if you purchased one, youd have to purchase another to get a new design.
With these, they are changable, and its as easy as taking off the plate, and puttin somethin else in it. You can put virtually anything flat under them. You could say they are a picture frame for your mixer. Buy one plate, and ONLY one plate. That will save you some grip. Plus, I think my plates are very reasonably priced.
The website is in the works, and I will offer artwork also. But if you peep the middle pic above, that is the plate with no art in it at all. There are other plates coming also. Prolly some 05s 07s, Haks, 707s and maybe some more.
On top of that are other ideas, that arent ready yet. Ill keep yall updated with the site.
This is really a good original idea from spensoar

No one ever thought it before
I can see the potential for worldwide customer
We can change the look of the mixer as easy as changing the plate
We can create anything from only one plate
The limit is only our imagination
It feels great when our mixer have a custom design on its plate
When our heart feels great and everything just going to be all right
It will help us feels good each time we on the decks

Everyone on this board knows how sick you can get of staring at the same old gear every day. Customizing gear is HOT.
I was fortunate enough to get one of these 56 plates early. Spensoar has got something great here. I have rocked this plate (just clear) for over a year now, and its gone through HEAVY abuse with gigs in LA. It's tight. Trust me.
Spens - get your website up, fast. Also PLEASE try and lock down one for the 909. That faceplate is truly, more than any other mixer I have ever owned, B-F-U. That design is so whack, I would like to stare at something other than those vertical lines....
wut up shin
more plates will be made for different joints.
the site is gonna be up hopefully soon.
and if anyone is interested or has any questions about my stuff, contact me at
customplates@sbcglobal.net
mmmmkay?
hurry up with the site... i need to get one of those 56 plates really bad.....
Hey spnesoar, are you taking orders yet?
fellas, you can order from me right now
hit me up at customplates@sbcglobal.net
paypal, check, and money order
Good idea, though Junebugg was doing this 5 years back.
Junebugg was a very very good artist. Big ups to bugglass!
But my plates are different.
junebugg was wack. this shit is different and better from what i can tell. not to mention these will actually be delivered. how many people are still waiting on their bugglass orders? c'mon now.
You need to do a HAK 360 plate for sure. That would be awesome.
Actually Spensoar you're wrong...
I got a Bugglass where I asked for various sets of artwork that i submitted...there was no airbrushing...there were some editions of Bugglass that was an actual rubbery film under the plexi but the more recent versions had photo paper and other types of artwork on paper type schemes.
I got a couple of Stacks vinyl versions that are solid colors as well as some original artwork.
i think the only thing another group can bring to the table is better customer service and better turn around of the plates.
Bugglass was a one woman show and i'm sure running your own business on your own while the whole world hates on you is tough...i'm sure this new group has a bunch of people behind it.
good luck.
thanks PMA
customer service is not going to be a problem at all. hear me now and believe me later. haha
this whole thing is gonna start small and get bigger. its gonna take time, but I gurantee more products to come, and a website to boot.
now if I could only find some time on the cut...
those rane mixers look terribly cheap, like made in the 1970's , even after being pimped. if the manufacturer would change it's appearance and made it look like a 07pro i would buy it. but this will never happen. just bought a pioneer djm 700.
Looks dull but it's the mutt's nuts in the scratch DJ world.
DJ JEff? If you've ever spent any time on a 56, you wouldn't much care what it looks like. And you can't possibly think the 707 is an aesthetic improvement.....
If your gonna buy an expensive mixer like rane, besides the good quality features, it's gotta look good, cause you probably will be spending more time with it then with your own girlfriend.
for a lot of turntablists i would imagine it IS their girlfriend
can they be less reflective?
if that is so then all turntablists have at least 2 girlfriends and not to mention all the cheap ones before!!
spensoar sent me one and the quality, cutting etc is perfect! no burs or sticky ends.
spen, if you are reading this hit me up in email.
yo Gutter ive tried to email you a couple times
I think ive been havin problems from my other email addy
try to hit me up at customplates@sbcglobal.net
ill try again as well
So how does this work exacly? Do you get a clear plate, and you stick your design behind the plate?
--Bomber...
Pimping something is always GAY . RANE mixers are quality mixers ,i doubt pimpin' them is going to do anything other than make it look cheap .
Unless your customising it yourslef its NOT creative and cool. If your going to cash out on a TTM 56 your down for a good quality beat /scratch mixer .
Unless your a writter there should be no urge to vandalise your property .keep it clean ,peace James77

I would think that if your willing to spend money on these plates, you would know what your doing, design wise.
